I have a 2017 SR5 Crewmax, 5.7, with Tow package, if it matters. I just went to a dirt road to try out my 4x4. Switch to 4Hi was fine, on a roll. Stop and switched to 4Lo and it switched over but when I take off there is a very long delay, then it feels like it catches up and another delay in moving forward. I am used to 4Lo in my FJ and know it 4Lo if takes the torque converter a little while but it seemed like I had way to much hesitation. Anyone have any thoughts? Is this just the way it is with these? I now am wondering if it has enough transmission fluid. It has 2000 miles on it.

    Thanks
    Mike

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to have it in neutral or park to switch to four low. Actually I'm positive. There's a place card on the driver side visor. I'm weird I always read it before I go into four low. I've only had it in it three times so I always like to make sure.

I guess I didn't explain myself very well, it went into 4Lo just fine, as expected. It was the hestitations when I started out driving. Like I said, seemed like 2 events, it's hard to explain. If anyone has spent some time driving in 4Lo they know the feeling, seemed like it happened twice for me :)

I didn't have that problem. Once mine says its in four low it was solid. It takes a second for everything to line up, if you're worried I would take it in.

Haven't had this problem. And I used it today on some fairly steep terrain (4 hi wouldn't budge the truck, even mashing the pedal with trac control off). I have run 4LO several times now on some off road bits, and what I HAVE noticed now is that it will engage both 4HI and LO much much easier than in the past)

Honestly, the first time I used the 4WD I was a little pissed that it took forever to engage. I, too, came from an FJ but mine was a stick and everything was enagaged manually. Don't really care for all the computer controlled shenanigans. If your experience is similar, it will enable 4WD more consistently and easily as you continue to use it. Break in period I suppose??

Yep, again really no issues going into 4Lo, I know how to get there, I too prefer the manual to electric. The issue is then starting from a stop to get the truck rolling, happens everytime when in 4Lo. I'll be able to take it in next week I think. I have a crazy schedule this week.

I'd definitely have that checked, but it could also be from it being brand new and needs to be broken in. But, your truck, your call. Good luck!! Let us know what they find.
