Bed Divider You Recommend?

Interesting solution, but I have a concern. When I looked at my bed (CrewMax), I found only 1 potential slider location for 2×8, located about 6-8" behind of the wheel wells. Unfortunately it only leaves 18 sharp between 2×8 and the tailgate. I measured my bags and they are roughly 22" long which makes it 4" shorter. I wish there were more options to slide the 2×8.

P.S. did Toyota specifically made the slides for 2×8 or is it just convenient to be used in such application? I see some other pickups has several vertical ribs on the bed sides which may or may not give more options...

 

Thanks for the help Jim and @NewImprovedRon. I've wanted one of these for a loooooong time. At $200 cad ($150usd), I couldn't resist. Turns out it was the real deal.

Looks, feels and works great. Now to rig up a lock for it so it doesn't get swiped.

I may not be getting creative enough with my Google searches. This part # showing up on Ebay in the $305-$350 range. Does that sound right? Just seems like a lot for a static piece.

 

Yeah, it's going to be tough to get it fully locked down.

I was thinking even a cable lock that loops through the mesh grate and the other end on the bed tie down. All it would take is a screwdriver or bolt cutters for a real thief, but it would stop kids from stealing for no reason than they want to be pricks.

A thicker cable with a crimp mechanism to create loops at each end (no lock) would even help opportunists downtown from stealing it for scrap metal. Similar to the brake safety cable on a trailer.

I was looking for that option, and I actually talked to the Tundra owner this morning and checked out his bedextender. Its not bad for small items, but I won't be able to use it if I need to put a couple of bags and a cooler even for a small picnic. It's just not deep enough...

 

I have a backflip cover and it drops the factory rails down the bedside in order to fit the covers rail. How much room does the Toyota bed divider have below it between the divider and the bed? Wondering if it would still fit with my lowered tie down rails.

 

OEM Bed Devider leaves several inches between the bed itself and the divider. Its very convenient if you have something attached to the sides or have mats, etc on the floor. It stilaalows to slide something underneath of the divider, like 2x4 or 2x6 flat down, but its main reason to divide the bed for big cargo items and its steel, so it withstand anything you through in the bed, I think it can even secure 200 gallon barrel if needed from sliding or rolling. I'm happy with mine.

 

I hear you. My issue is not the cover closing it’s the fact that my bed rail system is now lower on the bedside due to the cover which reduces the clearance under the bed divider. (The bed rails are relocated about 3 inches lower than factory location. Can sombidy measure under the bed divider? I’d like to know if the bed rails being lower still allow the divider to be installed or if it won’t fit because it’s too tall.

 

OEM Bed Devider has 2-3/4" from the bed floor to the divider. But if you turn the brackets with know down, you'd probably gain another 1/4". Also the bolt has some room and if you add a few washers under the bolt then you can raise divider a bit more if needed.
I have Leer Cap installed and my rails are in stock position with no issues and all bed cleats can easily be slider at any position.

As I mentioned my divider slides from the bottom to lower it, but if you revert the brackets upside down, it will be higher due to thickness of bracket wall plus you can regulate the height by adding washers as spacers on the bolt. If you slide it from the top then nothing stops to make it higher.

 

Curiously following this thread. I'm trying to imagine what you are describing here. Are you saying you can flip the brackets and adjust how high the divider rides above the bed floor? How much difference does that make?

 

Yes, the square bracket can be installed with slot on the bottom (as I have, see picture above) to slide the bed divider from the bottom, or you can flip the bracket 180 degree (slide it upside down into the rail, so hand-screw will be located from the bottom) with slot on the top to slide the divider from the top down. In the second case there is nothing prevents you to add washers or spacers to the bolt and adjust the height up. In my case I have the divider to slide from the bottom and this way I'm having it closer to the bed floor.
Brackets are universal and can be installed on either Left or Right rail, either with U-shape "holder" facing up or down. When you have the opening on the top its easier to install/remove the divider as you lift it up to remove or slide in to install, but having the opening on the bottom allows to install it 1/4-1/2" lower to the floor. Its up to you how you want to mount it.

I tried a DIY 2x4 version on mine...it didn't hold tight enough for that I wanted it to do.

It's worth a shot though and you can always use it for firewood of it doesn't turn out

Yes. Exactly what I was thinking - kiddo/dad project....to make mom happy that her groceries aren't sliding all around the truck bed!
