I am working on some headlight upgrades and I am a bit confused about what the daytime running lights are on double cabs. When I start my truck no front lights come on unless I turn my running light then headlight switch. When I turn my running lights on I get the 2 ambers in the corner and the single white 912(maybe?) bulb in the headlight. Is that how things should work? I do not want my headlights on all the time so I want to make sure that does not happen.

My 04DC doesn't have DRLs, so I picked up a pair of cheap LEDs and stuck them on the lower grille.

EDIT: Got a pic the other day...

For 2002: If you have DRL and you start your truck with the parking brake engaged, then the DRL will not come on until you disengage.

To disable the DRL, there is a clip you can pull apart next to your battery and quarter panel. You’ll need to remove battery to get hands in there.

I have that plug. I bet it goes to the extra light in the housing. I will see what happens.

I have 05 DC SR5. There is no DRL switch on the turn the stock. DRL works like Mr. Hand describes. DRL is on when parking brake disengaged. DRL is the headlight bulb itself (not just the 912 bulb) but it is at a dimmer level.... at least for my truck.

Does anyone know if the wire along the side of the battery (mentioned above to disable DRL) drives power to the light but at a reduced voltage? I'm wondering how that would affect using LED bulbs.

I believe it does from readings (in the past on the 2002). On the 2005-06 most guys need resistors for the LED. I am Golden Hands. This is Mr. Hand.

i unplugged the module and taped both ends up when switching to LED bulbs, but i prefer no DRL anyway.
