Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Hi all, as many of you are aware I blew the motor on my 2007 Tundra recently. After doing some research and test driving the Raptor as well as the Silverado trail Boss. I am opting to build up my 2007 Tundra instead. I believe it will be a cheaper and more capable vehicle than what the competition offers, albeit it will not be new, but still likely the better deal. I just got approved for a $32,000 unsecured vehicle loan. So I have that to spend on the build. I have already contacted two performance shops in the area and I'm getting quotes from them on what I want to build. Here are my plans below:

    1. Used 5.7 L iForce with new Magnuson supercharger
    2. Some type of long travel suspension setup.
    3. 37-in tires and wheels
    4. Regear to 4.88, and add a rear ARB locker, and differential breather.
    5. Miscellaneous "beauty enhancements"
    6. Front winch

I feel like that may not be enough money. I'm not totally sure though What do you all think?

@Vizsla and a few others can probably get you a rough ballpark figure on what they've spent on their rigs

Are you doing all the labor yourself? Plan on spending 20k easy on full long travel if a shop is doing it all for you

Superchargers are amazing, but really sweet suspension is more impactful. You have plenty of power to bomb stuff. Everything will add up fast as you will be upgrading everything for complete long travel. Make sure this is a forever purchase, you have your home purchase figured out, because you won’t get your money back if you ever sell a highly modded truck

Even without the supercharger it's going to be tough to build it right with that budget. If it were me, I'd get that motor in there first, without the supercharger then see what you have left and go from there.

No personal experience, but I believe most that do 37's prefer the 5.29 gears.

LT for $32k is possible. You are going to have to skip the motor, wheels, tires, regear, and everything else.

Delete the SC and LT. Use the rest of the $ and head up to Alaska, buy some cheap heavily black spruce treed property. Build a decent cabin with your trees, buy a used decent snowmobile, wood stove, honey bucket, hunting rifle, reloading press, salmon fly fishing combo, and beer. Good to go:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Option #2. All of the above except once situated, sell Tunny for a profit, get pilot license, buy a small short takeoff bush plane. You'll need it.

TC long travel. Deaver 420 SU leaf packs.
There are a lot of required LT mods that few mention. Some of these can get quite expensive if you're not doing them yourself. Just fitting the fiberglass will likely cost at least 1k w/o paint. You'll need to box your frame behind the cab at a minimum, new bumpers, re-imagine your air intake. IMO the supercharger isn't a great fit with LT, maybe just headers and exhaust.

Also, don’t ever borrow money to mod a truck. That is asking for financial ruin

An LT bush plane at that. 32K is a lot but as mentioned a LT setup will eat into that quite quickly. Get the motor in first and go from there budget wise.

At the risk of sounding like an asshole,

How much money do you think is necessary for a street-driveable LT truck to get built to the specs I listed?

Also, I am well aware of how I want to spend MY money, your condescending advice is neither helpful nor warranted...

We're on the same page so often it scares me.

OP, I would agree with Joonbug on this. Get the truck running first, then see what you have left to work with. If it weren't for the labor you might be okay, its really the work more than the parts that will eat your budget up. I do like the idea of rebuilding your truck rather than buying a new one.

if you can find used LT parts that would be better and do the work yourself. LT trucks break often so better know how to work on it.

Haha! I think when you say they break more often.... it's because they are being used for more than just mall crawling....I don't think it breaks more often just because it's LT, but yes... anyone expecting to offroad their truck should definitely know how to work on them.... unless you just have an endless supply of money!!

Fiberglass fenders and besides - $1700
Coilovers and secondary bypasses - $5000
    Rear bypasses - $2700
Total Chaos Front LT kit, axles, bypass hoops - $5600
    Deavers SUA leafs - $1500
    Bedcage - $2000
    Bumpstops - $320
Hangers, perches, tabs, shackles, limit straps, etc. - $2000
Box and brace frame - $3000
    Install - $10,000

There is a rough order of magnitude estimate for you just for the LT suspension.
Wheels and tires are easy to estimate, just go on tire rack or something and look for 17" 0 offset rims and pick out some 37" tires, don't forget to get 6, ~$3800. Regear, locker, compressor should come in under $5k depending upon where you get it done. Bumpers are all over the place and is personal preference, but if you are really going to use your LT you'll want the fab shop to custom weld bumpers to the frame.

of course, if you spending that much $$ you better push it to its limits..no sense having a LT truck and keeping it parked in your garage. LT truck is also not a BAJA truck with sponsors so you will break things. Nature of the game. Gotta pay to play. Just know about it before.

So...roughly 40Kish? Ouch but very cool once done. Not too far off OP's budget. Definitely a project.
