Has anyone ever seen a tailgate for a third gen that does not have Tundra stamped into the metal? My friend (not a forum member for some reason) damages his tailgate and wants to see if there is a replacement that doesn’t say Tundra. He wants a “clean and smooth” look. Whatever that means. Thanks.

Pretty sure that doesn't exist, however I saw a post on here where a guy recreated Marty's truck from back to the future with a third gen and he filled all that crap on the tailgate to make it smooth and then put the TOYOTA decal across it in red. Looked killer.

Yeah I think filling it is going to be the only way to get a Tundra-less tailgate.

I will never understand why someone would buy the best, most reliable 1/2T truck available, then remove all indications of the truck manufacturer. Now I can completely understand doing this if you drive a Silverado, F150, or Ram!

Check the build link in my signature.
    I’d probably cut/weld a replacement panel. That’s a lot of filler.

Because the cheap, plastic chromed pieces that are adhered with 3M tape, are water and debris magnets that cause rust.

I tried the OEM TUNDRA tailgate letters and they started peeling up after 6 months.

Unless TOYOTA or my dealership wants to pay me to advertise for them, I see no point in driving around showing them where I bought it or what make/model it is or that it's 4WD or how big my engine is. I know what it is, that's all that matters. Trucks are strange that way with decals and logos all over them, cars/suv/van, don't usually have them all over the place.

That's why all mine came off.

So why wouldn't the 2nd gen Tailgate fit the "3rd" gens? Is it shaped differently? That would surprise me given how Toyota is.

Even Porsches and Tesla’s can come debadged from the factory. People know what you’re driving, and probably don’t care.

I saw Steve Smith while I was up in AK in 2012. Made everyone repeat Possum Lodge pledge. I felt out of place. So many people were wearing Red Green suspenders. Got the tour tee!

As already mentioned....either remove the tailgate "skin" or have a body shop order a new outer skin. Cut out the Tundra stamping and have some sheet metal welded in. Not cheap but your friend will be happy.
