Anyone have a 2021 Pro with glitchy interior finishing—gaps, leather seat covers poorly installed?

I’m new to this forum thing. Just trying to get a take on what I should expect in terms of quality. I’ve owned Toyotas since I was a teenager across a 47 year spectrum of years and models. This is the first time I’ve ever seen poorly fitted parts on one.

The leather seats look like they’re aftermarket. The driver’s side window switch panel and elbow rest/handle pad move and have gaps between them and the panel face.

Just wondering if this is how they are or if mine’s an anomaly. Either way, kind of lame for a top-tier Toyota.

Have driven F150s since the mid 2000s. My sister has driven 4Runners and Camry’s since the early 1990s. I don’t think my Tundra comes close to the F150 in terms on interior fit and finish, but I would say the Tundra is superior in other ways (engine, transmission, steering, ride, appearance, reliability). I think the Tundra interior is nice enough and pretty much on par with the other Toyota’s my family has owned.

It really depends on your expectations and the specific problems you're having.

I concur with this sub par build quality. The leather in my 2020 4Runner TRD Pro was perfect. The leather seats in my 21 Tundra Pro are wrinkled in a few spots they also have a weird grease like discolorations tone only noticeable when you look for it at an angle but it’s in various areas (it might come off idk) haven’t fully tried to get it off. Only have 200 miles on truck from dealer to house. It hasn’t moved in two weeks nor have I cleaned the truck yet.

I also see that weird door arm rest terrible cut job on the edge against the doors.

It’s like the material was slapped on during a pandemic... which it was HaHa!

I guess that’s also maybe just the difference between a Japan made vehicle and a Texas built one.

But meh whatever life goes on. As long as it doesn’t fall apart and truck doesn’t leave me stuck on the side of an interstate I’ll be happy.

Sounds like MTW probably had aftermarket leather installed and maybe they recovered the door panels too, which could be done if it was a custom color.
If so, they did a poor job and the dealer should fix it.

I had some with mine but got fixed immediately. The gap on my door arm rest was off a bit, weld in seat frame broke so the seat was squeaking when I shifted weight. Also had a gap in my 3rd brake light. Turned out that the right screw was not tightened because it was too short to reach the threads.

I'm planning on bringing up the following at my first Toyota Care service appointment:

    • Door arm rest material doesn't seem to be bonded to the arm rest properly. If you run your fingers across it the material lifts and bunches easily.
    • Foam coming up from edge where dash meets windshield. I wouldn't mind this other than the fact that it isn't even at all. Looks like some parts got pushed under and some didn't as it goes across.
I've only had her a week now so other stuff might come up, but I did not have any of these types of issues on my 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro.

My two complaints are the interior dash that looks warped along the bottom where it meets with the lower windshield (I think everyone has this issue), and the cowl weatherstrip outside that runs along the bottom of the windshield is not flush with the windshield. Is this a deal breaker? Not really, as long as the drivetrain holds up, and the truck doesn’t crap out on me in remote places, im fine with it. You have to remember, this is a Japanese car built in the USA....not a Japanese car built in Japan. Huge quality control differences.

Would you mind taking a pic to show us? I am pretty certain all Tundras have the “warped” dashboard along the lower windshield.

When I get home, yes. Out of town.

The warped spot is a manufacturing install error and easily fixed at the dealer according to another thread on here somewhere.

Here is thread on the warped dash. Dealer installed new dash for me and haven't had any problems since (only been 2-3 weeks).

Like I said, every Tundra has this “issue.” Quite honestly, the amount of damage that is surely to happen if the dealer plays with it, won’t be worth the hassle. Taking a dash apart and reinstalling a new one has its cons....one of which will be numerous scratches and broken tabs behind the dashboard you wont see. Honestly, im going to leave mine alone unless it becomes a safety or functional problem.

Probably some truth to this. There's potential for broken tabs, scratches, etc. Dealer installed my new dash and I was really happy with result - no problems that I noticed, and I look it over pretty meticulously.
