Did this with my bike. Very happy. Cleaner bars and simple shifting. Only tiny loss of a couple gears. Worth it.

Didn't upgrade older bike but bought a mt bike with 1x12 sram gx eagle and it was a horrible drivetrain. It never would stay in proper adjustment, even the local bike shop couldn't get it 100%. I swapped it out for shimano xt 1x12 and it shifts smooth and flawless. Seems to be a common problem with sram 1x12 set ups.

Its definitely worth the upgrade. I have no experience with new Shimano, but everyone is raving about it. I have GX 1x12 on my bike. It shifts fine but definitely clunks. I have X01 on my wife/sons bike and it's really smooth.

Is that shimano cassette gonna work with the sram drivetrain?

1x12 is the way to go. I ride mostly single track and it’s much more efficient and smooth.
