I have a 2018 and I did 3 drain and filled while engine was cold. I refilled it exactly same amount I drained. I'm planning to get a scangage 2 sometime later get accurate transmission temperature to top up or drain excessive fluid.

My question is what need to be level. Truck or transmission pan?

    My truck is bone stock.

Truck level and transmission pan at 99°, pull level plug until flow is at a trickle. That will be the correct level.

Neither, truck needs to be on level ground with tires inflated correctly. How many times have you seen a level in a Toyota service center.

No levels, but lots of lifts. I imagine the vehicle is off the ground when they do this at a dealership... @Ruggybuggy can you confirm the correct procedure? I believe the transmission pan is parallel to the frame rails but haven't crawled underneath to confirm that.

Lifts are leveled when installed assuming the four post style.

When I was under the truck. pan looked like it was tilted towards back slightly but can't be sure. I should have took the level checker to the pan. And it's pouring out now..lol.

Level truck and not the pan. Put a level on the frame rail in the center of the truck. Make sure its level side to side. Basically don't do it on your sloped driveway.

When we put them on the lift the trucks sit fairly level on a two post. I used a drive on 4 post and when the hoist is on the locks its level to the ground.

With factory SR5 suspension, when parked on level ground (as best I can measure), the truck is level side-to-side as measured on the frame cross member, but it is not level front-to-rear as measured on the side frame below the front door. On level ground, the truck rear sits a little high relative to the front, as the stock suspension appears to be. Does that sound right?

Thanks, it says “maintain the vehicle in a horizontal position while adjusting the fluid level.” I’ve seen it recommended several times to park on flat ground, but the vehicle does not sit flat (front to rear) when parked on flat ground. I have an ability to do either with equal ease, just want to know what’s best.

Vehicle flat. The tranny pan is meant to have a slight angle to ensure proper fluid level.

Your over think it. Basically put the truck on level ground. I think I mislead by saying put a level on the frame of the truck. Just make sure the truck is on a level piece of ground front to back and side to side.
