I'm debating how to sell my gun. I have a Kimber Micro 9 with Crimson Trace Laser grips that retails for about $800. I have looked into on-line brokers, but they are only offering $250. I can sell it at my LGS and ask about $500, minus a 35% commission, so I would net maybe $300.

Anyone sell direct? I would meet the buyer at the local PD divisional buy/sell area. Not sure how I would advertise.

I would probably just keep it for a nice looking paperweight before selling it for $250-300.

Gun show maybe? Any ideas are welcome.

I’ve used armslist.com a few times. Basically like Craigslist for guns. Other than that or word of mouth it’s kind of a paint in the ass to sell a gun.

What..why! Word of mouth locally should get it sold! Armslist is also a good way.

Cabelas might be a good option.

Ugh - Armslist sucks. Scammers galore. Where are you located - what state? Different states have different laws. As you've found/seen, local gun shops will only give you a lowball number...they want to get it for a low enough price they can turn around and sell it quickly and make some $$ on the transaction.

For ME, I'm a member of several local and national firearms forums (very similar to this one), and I do a lot of buying and selling through those. Know that your state and federal laws are all important to follow. But, it can be done and you CAN sell a firearm out of state to a remote buyer (just have to work out shipping it correctly to an FFL in their state). And you'll get the best price without dealing with consignments or Armslist.

And, as JLS mentioned, right now you should be able to sell something like that pretty quick and for a good price. If it's in good shape, expect to be able to fetch near new prices...or even higher. It's a crazy market right now...

Do you have any local firearm forums where you're at? Here in the Pacific NW we have a very active forum with a classified section (just like here) where stuff gets sold pretty quickly.

If you are a California resident you could sell it via private party transfer and since the Kimber Micro 9 is off roster you’d get over $1,000.

    I am in Oklahoma.

Why sell the gun? I bought it for my wife and she doesn't like shooting it. Being a very small frame 9mm, it has a lot of recoil. I have my own guns and will probably get her something different.

Gun shows have been canceled here due to the virus. I might wait till this shit settles down tho and try that when they resume.

    Oklahoma

I'm sure we do but I don't participate in any. I'll check it out tho.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Find another shop with lower consignment fees

I charge 5% in my shop normally

If youre willing to ship, I'd post it for sale here or gunbroker

    Its a sellers market

A quick scan of the laws pertaining to private party sale of a gun in OK reveals it is pretty much cash and a handshake. You don't want to knowingly sell to a convicted felon. Guns are not registered here. Just the Brady background check.

Are you allowed to sell them at your local gun show without having a booth? People do it all the time down here in Texas.

I checked every shop that I knew about locally and they were all at least 30%. 5% is a great deal. I would like to avoid shipping if possible. Thank you for offering to help and if a local sale doesn't happen I might contact you.

The only real risk in a private sale of a scam is for the Buyer not the seller.
If you meet in person and accept cash how can you be scammed?

Find the shop with the smallest inventory and ask if the % is negotiable

Looks like the kimber micro 9s are going for around 500 used on Gunbroker right now depending on which model, with some of the basic ones being 499 new

Honestly though, pay for a month of armslist, post it and meet locally. Make sure buyer has a carry permit as that will rule out felons for the most part

Sounds about right. Mine has the Crimson Trace grips, extra extended mag, sticky holster, and is in nice condition, so I was thinking $500-550 would be a reasonable ask.

Since you are in OK, you can post it on MidwestGunTradrer dot com to see if you get any interest. You can also post gunbroker dot com to hit a wider market (it's like ebay, but for firearms and related merchandise).

No one can have my 10-22, lol.

I just don't see the sense in keeping the Kimber if we are not going to shoot it. I'm not a collector.

I agree. That’s how I sold mine a few years ago. Sold in about a week or two after posting if I remember. I’m in North Texas, though. Much bigger market and more participants in local forums than OK I’d imagine, so it may take you longer.

You could also try local gun shops, Cabelas and pawn shops, but they likely won’t offer you it’s real market value.
