If you are like me then it took you all day because everything that could go wrong, did. So yeah, I'd count it.

Looks awesome. I might have to do this in my formal dining room

I attached a 2x6 and then wrapped it in 3 pieces of barn wood and cut them at 45 degrees, glued, and nailed to make it look like a real beam. They came out pretty light weight and sturdy.

Figured it would have to be a wrap. Beams are very heavy and expensive.

Got the crown up on the kitchen cabinets, and picture rail up in the dining room. Measured for the glass in the upper cabinets.

Tomorrow will be wrapping up the laundry room: toe kicks (including cutting in a heat register in one), relocating a can light, and putting in the crown on the cabinets.

Hopefully I’ll also get started on the open shelves in the kitchen. Got to cut them all to size, groove them for blind shelf pins, edge band, and then start coating them... thinking maybe just a spray on polyurethane for a little durability.

Thanks. Hardest part is staying on it to finish. You get 80% done and “move in” and then it gets really hard to buckle down and finish.

I was given a bottle of cabinet/furniture paint to test so I figured I’d throw a couple coats on my bathroom vanity rather than replacing it. Saves me like $700-800 since it’s a 72 incher!
It came out way better than I thought it would. That cultured marble top will be gone soon, I have some 4’ porcelain sitting at work I’ll be using to make a new top.

What brand of paint was it? Did you have to do a lot of prep? We've got a kitchen full of dated cabinets I'd like to paint.

Nice job! That looks similar to the vanities we have going in soon. 72" in the hall bathroom and 80" in the master bath which are replacing the original vanities from 1976 that are 96".

This stuff is called Beyond Paint and it was really nice to work with. The cabinet had been stripped by the previous owner, but they didn’t do the back of the doors and it stuck just fine. I cleaned everything with a degreaser and went to town with a brush and roller. The instructions say you don’t have to sand or strip anything if you dont want to.

I did my entire kitchen with the Rustoleum kit about 2 years ago, and it was total garbage. I swear more scratches off every day and it’s tough to keep the painted surface clean.

Yeah, they are not cheap. Ours will actually have a different countertop than what was in the picture. They had a few options so we went with the plain white top and the single hole mount for the faucets. I'm waiting to see if we lucked out with the vanities. We have an extra one at the moment...First one arrived (72") and I cut the box open to check it and everything was good. The 80" arrived about a week later and I also opened that one. When they shipped they had the knobs installed backwards (inside the cabinet) for protection with the screw on the outside. One of the screws from a knob came loose and fell to the bottom and obviously got squished between the box and the lower trim on the vanity leaving a small scrape (very minimal). We called Amazon and they offered $100 off to keep it. My wife wanted a new one delivered since we were spending a lot on the vanity and didn't want to have to find paint to match and touch it up. Three weeks later a delivery truck arrived with the replacement. We asked about them taking the old vanity and they said they won't take it without a pickup order and they didn't have one. It was our understanding that the new vanity was going to be delivered and they would be picking up the old one. It's been a couple more weeks now and we still have it. Wonder if they will ever call to schedule a pick up or if it was just missed somehow?

Funny, I actually had something similar happen in the hall bath. I bought a stupid expensive vanity with a white quartz top. Once I got it in the bathroom and open, I noticed a crack in the top. Thinking it was just a scratch, I ran my hand across it and sliced my finger all to hell. It looked like a murder scene in there. Lol
I called the company and they tried to give me a hard time, but as soon as I mentioned the blood, they got a new one shipped out and told me to keep the broken one.

Worked on the laundry room cabinets today.
    • Toe kicks installed, including the cut-out for the duct register under the corner cabinet.
    • Relocate the can light away from the wall by 3.5” including patch, texture, and paint
    • Two piece built-up crown on top of the cabinets
Need to do a little touch up paint on the crown and then it’s on to the exposed shelves for the kitchen. Then the last piece is some sort of finished cover over the washer and dryer that integrates into the window sill. Ooooh so close.

Looks good! Have you considered butcher block for over the washer and dryer? They make deep pieces big enough.... we did butcher block as countertops in our laundry room. I have restained them a different color since this photo.

Check the build link in my signature.
That was one thing I had considered. We originally had a continuous counter over the washer and dryer when we built the house. Then the washer needed replaced, and everything available was bigger/taller than the originals we had. We’ve had the old cut part of the countertop just resting on top of the new ones ever since (couple of years) - but with this remodel it is time to do it right.

I just repainted all the cabinets in my kitchen and used Insl-X cabinet paint. It's a sub brand of benjamin moore. I brushed and rolled the frames and sprayed the doors. Came it really good, but time will be the big test. Few pics of it all done a couple pages back on this thread.
