I am looking for opinion between these two brands. I would like to upgrade my stock jbl speakers to something better, component set. From research on here, quite few have the Hertz k170, k165 set. Some said they are too "bright", other likes them just fine.

I will be powering them with a pioneer 5 channels amp gm-d9705. Android headunit.

    Looking for opinion between the
    Hertz k170, k165
    Vs.
    Kenwood kfc-p710s

    Why one over the other?
Any experience with the kenwood component or how they sounds?

    Anyone?
    Bueller, Bueller, Bueller

Comparing specs. Hertz looks to have slight edge over frequency response and sensitivity.
    Hertz:
    Freq resp: 55-23,000 Hz
    Sensitivity: 93.5dB

    Kenwood :
    Freq resp: 63-24,000 Hz
    Sensitivity: 86dB

So the hertz can play lower frequency. Louder for having higher sensitivity dB.

Dont know bout the tweeter though, really dont want too "bright" of a tweeter.

Just curious, but why just those two brands? There are many brands that are good.

It's within the price range of "i'm cheap". Plus seems like what most people on here ran the Hertz and kenwood seems "similar" in specs.
Honestly I dont know much bout audio speakers. I know sounds is subjective to each person, but really trying to avoid the "buying and returning" process if end up not liking them.

Budget wise i guess if i can get away with $100 and under a set with decent sound. I'd stick with it.

Well I can respect that. Being cheap can have it s advantages, but when it comes to quality sound, I have to say, good luck with that. My problem has always been a dis satifaction with the result when I try to go the cheap route, which in turn, causes me to go with something different. Now a days, for me, being frugal is secondary. Quality, and specs are what really matters, but I guess as long as one can live with the results, it s all good.

Honestly, i rarely get to turn up the volume in this truck. Every time we take it out, we have our 2.5yrs old with us. So that usually mean kids movies or youtube nursery songs. Every once in awhile im on my own. So, i can live with sub-$100 price range. I do know I'd like more than factory sounds

I installed the K165 component speakers all around using the same 5 channel pioneer amp you specified and a Kenwood headunit. I'm also running two Rockford R2D2-10 subwoofers off the fifth channel. Overall it sounds waaaaaaay better than factory. I did put deadening material on all the doors while doing the install to help clean up the sound a bit but haven't yet bothered with the rear wall, floor, or roof.

I'll agree with some people who say its very bright. I initially thought the same but after time and some adjustment on the EQ, I can say I'm very happy with where the sound is at. Even at volumes where you can hold a normal conversation, nothing is overbearing. When listening to just the Hertz speakers, don't expect a lot of thump. While adjusting the EQ I turned off the subs and played with just these since I haven't replaced any of the dash speakers yet. Again, they're very clean but require other speakers to give you that full sound.

When you adjust the EQ, did you have to retune your amp's gain?
I have replaced the dash speakers with some kicker 2.75" 47ksc2704. I am also running an 8" polk subwoofer in the factory plastic box. Just ordered some kilmat 80mip 36yrd.
Did the sound deadening help with the mid bass at all?

    Thanks

I adjusted my amps gain to get my volume balanced the way I wanted and then adjusted the EQ to get the sound I wanted.

I can't say that the sound deadening helped with the mid bass since I didn't compare before and after, however, the deadening certainly helped cut out external noise. That in itself helps more than people tend to realize. I did use the foam rings and baffles on the components as well to try and get the most out of them.

I have the foam rings sitting here waiting to get install when everything comes in. Still trying to decide on speakers.

Not me. When I took out the back seats, and applied deadener to the area under the back windshield, and behind the seatbelt trim my mids bass got noticably lower. The first time I noticed it I was looking at other cars around me to see where the bass was coming from. Then I realized it was me:D

Something I noticed . The crossover image for that set shows what I think is the EX 530, but if you look in the crossover section, the EX 430 crossover, which comes with the CL 61 set. looks different.

I can t find that model on the site. If it s anything like this it s a major upgrade. The better models of CDT s crossovers usually include image tweeter outputs. This allows you to add a second set of tweeters to your sound stage. Mine are affixed to the top corners of the windshield pointing to center of dash. This site explains.

Yeah, that's the exact one that i could find on their website. Not sure why they said "iX" at the end. Can't find it on google either. Well, I'll report back once it gets here. Upgrade would be sweet.
Thanks for the read. Pretty interesting information on that site.

Yea. These dudes are old school audio. You can tell the site is dated, but in my experience they are a solid brand, and you can get some beastly wattage speakers.

I wanted to get away from the main stream brand a little and try something different. I think the cdt will fit the bill quite nicely.
Website definitely needs a little work. Some info are slightly off, not much but a little, between the pdf tech sheet vs the product descriptions. I've read on diymobileaudio.com that the owner is pretty cool and knowledgeable but he also ran the website by himself. Which explains why it's needed update. He's super busy also.

That's the exact thread i read before. Seems like he's a 1 man show majority of the time. Language barrier doesnt help. But people seems to be quite satisfied with his products.

Ups dropped these off today. They DID upgrade me to the better 2way crossover like they said they would. It looks real nice and quality speakers.
Next step is to find time to sound deaden the doors and mount these puppies up.
Ordered the CL-61 but the slip said it's the CL-61Pro. Not sure if they are the same thing or not. But im not complaining.
