Hmm...Not sure about this. You're saying you will help? I assume so from the post above.
In the first post you said :

" he continues, "Cool, I'll get my truck washed and you can show me how to do it". . . . . . 'uhhhhhhh noh'.

You don't have to do his whole car.....but a lesson and then having him do it as you watch. Who knows...he may be hooked for life.

I’d let the guy practice washing my truck a few times whilst sipping a few tinnys. There would be strong supervision and of course he would need have at least 3 full practice washes before getting an Feather Duster POTB (Pat on the Back) Award. After that I might let him cut my grass but maybe not as that is my weekly Therapy.

Best advice in this case would be to tell him to "just pay someone else to wax it for you".

The poor guy drives a Taco.
    or
Tell him to put some hot sauce on it to get the wax off.

I’m a DIYer myself. I’m only limited by my bad back these days  Some things I take for granted I realize it’s completely foreign to others. You don’t know what you don’t know.

And some just don’t want to take the time to learn or have the cojones to try something new and learn a new skill.. and that’s Ok too. To each his own

I'm guessing that the majority of vehicle owners who actually wash their vehicles, elect to use the drive-through carwash and select the "Hot Wax" option...content seeing water bead for a week or 2.

People like us who regularly hand wash/wax their vehicles are a tiny minority. I believe that I'm the only person in my ~ 100-house neighborhood that hand waxes.

Proper wash and wash will keep the horizontal paint/clear coat nicely after 20 years of Island Sun.

This is very true. I think some of it is genetic also. I'm more Type A personality than I would prefer. Dirt/clutter gives me anxiety.

This is probably what my next garage will look like.
