if you have the smaller tank you will not have the cross member, easy to check by just looking underneath or post a pic and i can tell you. But 99.98% sure you will need to get the cross member

Planning on swapping out to the 38 soon. I have a 2018 with the holes for crossmember. Would like to confirm if I have to cut the crossmember for it to fit? I thought I read somewhere that someone didn’t have to cut but I can’t find it.

 

you might have to you may not... try it and if not you notch it a bit... not hard.

for all doing this, seriously consider knocking out the anti roll valve. 3rd gen guys are still reporting issues

So I have been gathering parts for a 38g swap and I noticed that the new fuel pump I picked up a couple months ago is for a non-FFV. Any takers?

 

I think ur stock pump will work from your last one

For the 3rd gen people, I just took my 2020 Crewmax to an auto shop to upgrade mine.
Purchased but did not use:
7714408010 fuel pump retainer. Mine is newer, so guess they didn't break old one.
776010C120 middle fuel tank strap. Reused existing.
776060C040 skid plate did not fit. Still need to look after market for something.
Parts used:
770010C120: 38 Gal fuel tank
771690c010: fuel pump gasket
776010C110: front fuel tank strap
7765334050: fuel tank assembly pin
90119A0249 x3: bolt w/ washer
510380C040: fuel tank support
They also charged $12 in shop parts, not entirely sure what that was.

 

What they charge to instal ?

Better safe than sorry with the retainer. At least you can return it or keep it in case you ever have to remove your fuel pump in the future.
You got the wrong part number strap if you wanted a skid plate and you have to order all 3. You also got the wrong part number skid plate.

But congrats on the upgrade. I just finished mine as well.

 

Does anyone know if the swap causes any lights on the dash ?

 

No dash lights with swap and the computer sort of learns the new distance to empty but it’s not very accurate.
You only need to buy the strap for the new crossmember, the other two from your old tank work fine.
I tried to get the new crossmember in without trimming but I was installing it with the small tank still in and didn’t have the room to see if it was possible. So I trimmed it and it was fine.

 

I got the straps and 2 tank straps but missing one but one may work from the old one I’ll take pics later thanks

 

Hey thanks for the updated part numbers. Holding off for now. But if I do, I think I'll go for the RCI skid plate. Assuming I'll need those 3 off-road straps for that. Not currently planning on any off-roading. Just towing an RV...

 

I’ve got these 2 straps and the bracket anyone know if the 3rd strap can be used from a 28 gallon tank ? I’m missing one

 

The part number you are missing is 77602-0C120. Well, you can use the rear one from the 26 gallon tank. It might be a smidge tighter. See the pictures below. I see in your description that you have a TRD off road, so your existing strap should have the skid plate studs. I'm not sure if you would have an alignment issue with the studs to skid plate or not. Don't cross the bolt threads trying to get it in. It should only be an extra $57.33 and less than a week lead time for that rear strap. Your call. Good luck with your project.

 

Been driving 4 days and used a little more than a 1/4 tank since the swap. No MIL or DTC's here. Range seems to have auto-calculated somewhat. The computer is still "self-learning". Will know more after a couple fill-ups.

I just noticed that you have a 2014. If you haven't already drilled the holes in your frame for the crossmember, here's a few measurements I took. Hope this helps.

The picture shows the driver side. The passenger side mirrors this. I didn't bother with the 2 holes on top of the frame; they're pretty inaccessible without removing the cab and it's reinforced as well. Drill the 8 holes (4 per side). Use some cutting fluid and some good bits. Take your time. Don't forget to prep and paint. Good luck.

 

Hey dude thanks for all the info I am paying a shop to do it actually I’m just running out of free time with work. I do have a trd off road. I was suppose to get the 3rd strap I paid for it but never showed or heard back. Maybe I’ll just order the strap and wait and do it right but most say it will fit. Thanks for all the help dude anyone on this know if the 3rd strap will work from a trd off road small tank ?
