I have this same HU with a Maestro RR2 in a 2019 Tundra Limited and am not getting any Fuel gauge. The Tire Pressure and other gauges work OK, but when I go into Settings to pick which gauge to use on the P1/P2 screens, it is x out. Any ideas?

My fuel gauge doesn’t show either. I did find that sometimes revalidating PIDs on the HU can help get some parameters working (I wanted to display Transmission temperature but it was greyed out and when I revalidated the PIDs it was available)

You can do that through the OEM settings menu on the HU. I can check later on how you actually get to that function.

I went ahead and gave that a try (actually a couple of times) and still no Fuel option available to select. Odd that some Tundras have the option and others not.

2016 w/ Dmx 906s and TPMS works for me except that I have 2 bad sensors. Mine's a limited and did not display pressure on the dash.

I may bite the bullet and give it a go since I'm having issues with my Crux steering wheel module. Thanks for the confirmation.

Are any of you guys having reboot issues? I have a 9706S and when it is hot out and I get in the truck after everything boots up, if I use the steering wheel controls to call home, Siri says I'm checking and then the unit shuts down and reboots

My 906s reboots every now and then. I've not been able to identify a discernible pattern. It's done it while in Android Auto, Spotify, and just listening to the radio. Different times of year in varying temps. It does not do it often, but is annoying when it does.

I’ve had this HU for about a year in my 2007 tundra and love it. Recently after iOS14 the music apps go to black screen when you click on them on the screen. They only open up after I open them on my phone first. This happens every time now. Mostly on iheartradio, but it will happen on the others as well.

What's the verdict on this head unit? I've got a lead on a good used one, and I'm thinking about going with it and saving $400-$500 from buying a new unit. Thanks!

I'm thinking of putting this unit in my 2008...are you pleased with it and can you post pictures of your install so that I can see what it will look like? Thanks!

One additional question...has anyone tried to install this system themselves? I just got a really, really high quote from a local stereo shop. Biggest concern is configuring the Maestro unit. Thanks!

Lots of us have. On a scale of 1-10 difficulty to install I’d rate it 3. Read the instructions twice, take your time, and you should have it done in a couple hours.

Is that a 3/10 to install the Kenwood and/or the Maestro unit? Thanks!

They are both easy. Flashing and hooking up the Maestro takes about 30 minutes. The HU/wiring harness is a little more time consuming but not difficult if you’ve ever spliced wires.
My advice is to get the RR2 unit as several of us get random HU reset with the RR.

    Few questions guys...

    1. Is there an antenna adapter required to connect the Kenwood to the Toyota antenna wire?
    2. Did anyone install a harness to allow for video playback on the Kenwood while in motion, and if so do you have a part name/number and instructions? I found this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...title_srh_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3PEORXDHEWCJ1
    3. Will Crutchfield build a wiring harness for me (ReadyHarness), even if I did not buy the receiver from them (willing to pay for service and harness of course)?

    Thanks!

So does this thing let you adjust the factory convenience settings through the head unit? Like door lock settings, feedback settings, etc.? Can you also access the in-car WiFi settings through it like you can on the factory HU?

    Yes.
This I can’t confirm since my truck doesn’t have wifi.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I updated to the iPhone 12 and my receiver rebooted recently so it’s not the iPhones issue, reboots when using Wireless CarPlay. It seems “stability improvements” are a common theme in the firmware upgrades!

How do you install the firmware updates...use a thumb drive in the USB port? Thanks!

Yup. There is a downloadable PDF with instructions on the Kenwood site. But basically download the firmware zip file, Extract the compressed files to an EMPTY USB thumb drive and plug it into the receiver USB port.

I updated mine recently hoping it would resolve the random reboot issue. It rebooted again the next day, so didn't fix it for me.

Damn! That’s the only reason I updated. Just did it today. It kept failing on me initially - so I disconnected battery and tried a different USB stick and reformatted it on Windows (initially used my Mac to format MS-DOS FAT). It seems the Kenwood HU is ultra sensitive to the USB drive.

Can someone double check me here...I just downloaded the latest firmware. When I open my thumb drive, there is a root folder named S_V1_8_0009_5900. When I open it, there are two folders named BOOT_V1_8_0009_5900_release and SOC_V1_8_0009_5900, and also an icon named UpdateVersionControl. Can someone confirm this is correct? I don't want to brick this unit the moment I install it. Thanks!

That looks right. Good luck! You should be fine. My first attempt failed and the HU went into a constant reboot cycle. I had to reformat my USB and reload the files and it worked fine on the first attempt on the reformatted USB.

Do you mind elaborating on how you formatted your USB stick? I bought a new one and didn't do any formatting...just dropped the firmware updates onto it. Thanks!

I had an old USB lying around and tried first to format on my Mac...then loaded the firmware update. It started off ok but the update wouldn’t finish - I kept getting errors and it would endlessly cycle.

I then reformatted it on my Windows machine, reloaded the firmware and presto... worked on first time.

I think a new USB out of the box may not need formatting.

I got my firmware updated, but I am still having random reboot issues. Has anyone successfully isolated this to the Kenwood, or the Maestro? Thanks.

Happens to me pretty frequently. At least once a week and I’m only driving 10 miles per day. I’m leaning towards the maestro and a voltage issue. Probably going to pull the HU at the start of the year and run it on bench top for a few days to confirm my theory. If all goes well I’ll ditch the maestro and hardwire it. Only issue will be the backup camera
