New guy here. I don't own a Tundra (yet). I know I will be in the market to buy this time next year. I am on the bubble as to whether to wait for the new, redesigned Tundra that's coming out in NOV/DEC of 2022, or take advantage of the "mature, 2021 model". Specifically, the the conflict in my mind is whether to have the fuel economy that the TTv-6 engine promises, or take advantage of the tried & true V-8, and suck it up wrt the last-in-it's-class MPG. Following the conversations here, and am thankful for the brain trust.

    Welcome from Georgia.

Never buy a brand new platform / model, wait at least a year or two to see how well the new shiny objects hold up. And I agree with Prostar, the 5.7L is a proven engine... I enjoy mine.

Don't forget to check out Toyota CPO trucks, they can be a great value with an extended warranty.

Welcome from the wet side of WA.

I wanted to wait and see the new refresh. But I agree to avoid the first year of a new setup to see what bugs they didn’t find in testing. And as I thought about it, I had 297k on my 2008 without any real issues. So I went with what I knew could get me that sort of longevity again.

And given how looong Toyota will stretch out a generation, I’ll probably be in good shape to pick up a Gen5 (that is really just a slight refresh of the Gen4 that probably should really be called a Gen3 because the “Gen3” is really just a refresh of the Gen2) in 12 years...

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I have seen MPG calculators several times that show that actual $ saved when compared to other expenses. The difference between 17 MPG and 20 MPG is actually pretty minimal in $ when you look at all the factors. I would definitely go with tried and true unless you're willing to wait until 2023.
