Guys, what is the best way to get body color matched bumpers? I saw some aftermarket plastic bumpers (covers) which can obviously be painted to whatever you want, but their description usually says "for 2007-2013 models with plastic bumpers". Does it mean that it's not a direct swap of steel chrome ones? And if that's the case, is painting over chrome (after some serious sanding and priming) something to consider at all?

Covers will snap on top of the chrome, so nothing is being swapped with them. Cheaper option.

Replacements will require removal of existing bumper and ends. More expensive option.

Bumpershellz is the only maker I know for overlays and I'd they don't list your year, they probably won't work

Sand blast the chrome off of the steel bumpers and have them painted.

Yeah well Bumpershellz don't make them for 2nd gen. I found this thing on Ebay and it looks like overlay but they do mention it's for models with plastic bumpers... I think I'll ask them...

I'm considering this option but is sandblasting chrome so it's down to bare steel possible at all? Just worried about durability of painting sanded chrome...

Yes it is. It only cost me $20 to have the end caps blasted to bare metal. They then just need to be sanded, primed, and painted.

I too am looking at options to get rid of my chrome bumpers. Rockauto has the plastic bumper covers for 2nd gen, wondering myself if these would be a direct fit over the chrome or would have to replace entirely? Cheapest option for sure if doable.

The chrome is a bumper cover. I would assume the plastic is interchangeable. It is pretty easy to get off on the rear, front is a pain. We’re talking about the 2nd gen full width chrome bumpers.

Cheapest option is to spray it with plasti dip. Not sure process - lots of threads on this.

If you switch from the Chrome bumper to a plastic one it won’t be a direct fit, tried myself a couple weeks ago and found out the hard way. You’ll need new fog light housings, splash guards, and bumper reinforcements. There’s another thread where someone listed all the parts needed to switch from chrome to plastic, if I find it I’ll throw the link in.
The chrome bumper is legit metal underneath so best best is sandblast and paint or plasti dip like the others said.

Did you get the grille surround wrapped too or was that spray painted? Trying to properly color match mine to silver sky as well

It was properly painted in a shop. My grille surround was black though, not chrome.

After looking at some options, I think I'm gonna get some of the 3M 2080 vinyl wrap and try to do it myself. Seems fairly cheap and I'm not a big fan of the plasitdip. If this doesn't work then will probably look into line-x like what is mentioned above.
