Is this the best “bang for the buck” 3” lift? Been between rough country and toytec for a bit now.

Mrs had those 6" extended N3 front struts installed, I must say, what a difference in ride quality

My buddy is 2wd and has the RC 6" kit with the spacer
I'm having a hard time understanding why the extended N3 coilovers won't work for the 2wd, but I think I understand, just want to make sure that I'm correct here:
    Spindle adds +3" lift
Top coilover spacer adds +3" lift
    Total 6" lift

In order to scrap the spacer, he will need 3" extended coilovers, correct? Which RC does not make...
Can't he just use 5100s? No offroading for him, he has no need for any 2.5s or resi's, just a standard 2.0 extended coilover will work.
But he wants to stay within the same RC brand, but it doesn't look like that's an option for him.

I have a bds w/o any past spacer-delete knowledge, so sorry if this is a basic ass question and I'm overthinking.
    TIA

I'm not sure that is accurate. Now, I am running the RC 6" N3 coil-overs on my Pro Comp 6" spindle lift. Of course, my truck is a 4x4. But, I cannot understand why you could not run the N3's on an RC 6" spindle lift on a 4x2. It is a spindle lift that your buddy is running, right? I mean, the only difference between the N3's and stock coil-overs is that the N3's have an extended body, to compensate for the lack of the shitty spacer. That being said, the simple answer is to call Rough Country and ask one of their techs. I have called them several times and I ALWAYS get a knowledgeable tech on the phone who is happy to answer all of my questions. RC: 800-222-7023

I could be wrong but I dont think RC makes a 2wd spindle lift. They sell various smaller >3" spacer lifts and their 4.5/6" bracket lifts.

If he has a dropped crossmember on the front with RC or RCX written on it he has a 4.5/6" bracket lift with a big metal spacer. Then I would assume their lifted struts would fit. Though he might want to check with RC first.

If he has a spindle lift, to get 6" lift you have to use a 3" spacer. In that case the 3" spacer could be replaced with 5100 bilsteins on the front.

    Thanks Preacher, Half Ass

I completely agree with both of you. RC told us that the 6" N3 coilovers do not work with his 6" lift, with no explanation over email. Goes against everything that I know. Waiting for a response from RC from me questioning it. He has the only 6" drop bracket lift (or any 6" lift for that matter) for the 2016+ Tundra. And it also doesn't make any sense that 2007-15 and 2016+ are two different lifts. Same frame and suspension... and what some would call "3rd gen" began in 2014.

They don't make any spindle lift for the Tundra. But looking at your spindle comment earlier Half Ass, it might explain why they're claiming it won't work. But it still doesn't make sense.

The 6" N3 coilover should be a direct replacement to the stock coilover + spacer, IMO. I just can't wrap my head around it. He has a drop bracket lift. I took the coilovers from a 2wd BDS and put them on my 4wd BDS, that literally means nothing. As long as it's the same LCAs, you have the same mounting points.

I'm tempted to say screw it and buy them to test. Or at least call and talk it out. Waiting for them to get back to me first, but figured I'd jump in and ask the question in case I'm missing something here.

Logic would dictate that you are simply dealing with two mounting points; top and bottom. Thus, as long as the distance is not altered by N3 coil-overs, they should work. If it makes you feel any better, if you do decide to try them out, and it does not work, you probably could sell them here on Tundras.com pretty quickly.

Ok, spoke to RC. They said the N3 6" is meant for 4wd only because of the difference in spring rates. They said putting the 501017 6" N3s on a 2wd is going to add additional lift in the front. Couldn't tell me exactly how much or what the spring rate was.

You can put it on, it'll work, but the ride will probably be pretty stiff. I mean, they aren't wrong, but I think it's a little BS. They should 1) offer a 2wd-friendly non-spacer option or 2) meet somewhere in the middle between the spring rates. Let's be honest, if you're buying the spacer kit, or w/o the vertex coilovers, you must not give a $hit about ride quality.

If it was me I'd buy the 4wd struts. The spring rate cant be that much different and i like a little stiffer ride anyway. Ive never seen the N3 strut in person, but in pictures it looks like a factory strut with an extended shaft. It might be possible to swap the coil springs.

There was a change to the brake caliper bolt size in 2015, thats why there are different kits. I was trying to figure that out a few months ago because the kits i was looking at were different prices.

I know that @jeremyd has a couple of pics of the N3 side by side with the OEM coilovers and I bet he would be willing to chime in and show you. But, if memory serves, the N3 coil springs, are taller than OEM. I mean, I have them on my rig, but I did not do a side by side comparison.

Regardless, it seems odd to me that the spring rate would be very different. I mean, the 4wd front diff is not very much added weight vs. the 2wd.

I agree with you both. I'm going to try and convince my friend to get them to "test"

Was also thinking, if the same spring rate logic applies, we might be able to use the 4.5" N3... although the collapsed and extended lengths are different, he doesn't go offroad ever. The shorter collapsed length is protected by the extended bump stop, and he will never reach full flex so the longer extended length shouldn't be a problem either, but we can do a limiting strap to be safe. I'm thinking that might be an option too.

I'll follow up with what we decide, maybe this can help someone else too.

Hope this helps someone. I have since added 1 inch spacers on top of the coils. No issues, I just wanted to achieve 7 inch's of lift.

Looks like you used the OEM coils with the N3s? Why not the assembled coilover RC provides? Didn't even know that you could order the shocks standalone, I don't see them online.
I know you're 4wd, but is the ride stiff?

It's a totally smooth ride, I did it this way cause it was only 250 bucks.
