Looking for TRD OR front struts

I have an '08 DC 5.7 4wd with the TRD Off Road package, and am looking for a set of used take-offs to replace mine. I have both front springs broken, and am looking for an economical replacement set. I live in North East PA, so if someone near by has a set they are willing to part with, please PM me.

I have the shocks only with 33k on them if you are able to locate springs

 

Thanks for the reply, but that seems to be my problem. Very few options for springs. OEM springs are $160 + per side, and not much available aftermarket less than that, that I would trust. And then I would need to remove shocks, disassemble to remove/replace springs, and reinstall. I was hoping for an easier option.

 

OK, I need a bit of clarification if someone knows. I was under the assumption, since I see them listed that way, that the front struts were specific for each side, L/R. On the Toyota parts sites, there are two different parts numbers for L/R, and there are two different part numbers for the L/R side coil springs. I had an online salvage yard just tell me that the front struts are interchangeable between sides when I tried to get them to clarify the description on a TRD Off Road strut they were offering for sale. Were they giving me a line, or is there a way to reconfigure a strut to fit either side of the vehicle?

 

The only thing I could think of being different would be if they were calibrated to account for the Tundra lean.

I think you should also be able to use 3rd gen parts for these, because the basics of the truck haven't really changed since 2007. Hell, Toyota still considers current tundras to officially be 2nd gen. If you can use them that would greatly increase your market for take offs. You might even be able to contact local shops and dealerships to see if they have any take offs they'd let go for cheap.

Full disclosure: I could be wrong about the parts being interchangeable left to right, and even between model years.

 

I may be wrong but our truck doesn’t have struts. We have could over shocks. Maybe semantics but it may help you narrow your search. If you broke both springs maybe get something a bit tougher. I upgraded to the 6112’s and love them.

 

The front suspension support device in my truck is a coil spring mounted around the front shock. I have always called this type of combined suspension component a strut. If one has a coil spring mounted around the rear shock, it is usually (IMHO) called a coil over shock. When looking for these front suspension components on most parts sites, the unit without the coil spring attached is usually called just a shock while the combined component is usually listed as a strut. In any case, I am looking for the entire assembly, the shock, with the coil sprint mounted to it and a bearing top mount (So the entire device can rotate with the knuckle when the steering system turns the front wheels).

I don't know why both font springs broke in the same place, but I am beginning to suspect the struts (shocks) are not the original equipment. All of the TRD front shocks I have seen listed are yellow in color with black coil spring. The shocks on my truck are black with a black spring. I haven't yet, but I intend to take a closer look at them to see if there are any identifying markings on them. I have only owned this truck for a year, and the original owner may have replaced the original equipment with aftermarket parts.

In any case, whatever one calls them, I am looking for the entire front shock/coil suspension unit.

 

Our trucks have front coilovers (coil over shock) and upper control arms. Struts are used in place of a coilover and UCA combination. The strut bolts directly to the knuckle.

 

OK, thanks for the clarification. As I said earlier, many parts sites, for whatever reason tend to call these components 'struts', so I just went with it. I have always believed you are never too old to learn something new. And today was one of those days.

The original TRD off road package shocks on mine were yellow, made by bilstein. If yours are black, it may not be the original TRD OR package shocks.

Thanks to a member, I have a great used set of TRD Off Road coilovers, and finished installing them yesterday. Now onto the crossmember replacement.
