Has anyone replaced their center console?
Or, purchased a cover for your center console?
If yes, to either question, can you provide some details?
    Was it easy to do?
What reccomendations do you have from your experience?

Welcome from the wet side of WA...guessing you're in Indiana?

    First question would be:
Which truck model - bench seats or bucket seats, and DC or CrewMax?

If bucket seats, the main body of the console is the same between the DC and CM, but the rear panel is different (CM has vents while DC has cup holders).

    Second question is:
Why are you thinking of replacing, and is it just the lid, or the WHOLE console?

In either case, your best bet for a replacement would be to hit searches on some used car part sites or ebay. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market is one I use a LOT. You'll spend a lot less than buying brand new through a dealer, and would also get stuck buying each individual part separate as opposed to just getting a whole top (or whole console). As for covering it, I have seen a lot of different options out there - some seat cover kits will come with a console cover to match (my Wet Okole seat covers on my 2008 came with one but I never used it), and some fit better than others.

Would the console arm rest from a 3rd gen fit/ direct replacement?

I took mine out and recovered it with high density foam and genuine leather. It looks and feels so much better and my elbow thanks me every day.

How hard is it really to replace this cover? I found one video where the guy was gluing, cutting, and stapling. Saw another post where a guy said he played hell with it, and another part the guy said he had to get a professional to do it for him. Anyone actually done and can give some insight?

It's easy, but that can depend on a person's skill and confidence. You can see from the pictures I posted above some of what it entails. I looked up on Youtube how to remove the armrest. Disassembly, removal of the old vinyl covering, adding a foam pad, attaching the new leather cover, and reassembly was pretty straight forward.

What foam did you use? My cover has a hole in it and I can tell it has no foam under it. So all you used was glue? Didn't need staples or anything?

I used a high density closed cell foam. There’s a brand name called Rubatex, but I’m sure there are many other manufacturers. All I used was contact cement (Dap Weldwood in the blue container). No staples were used; just clamps to hold things in place as I slowly glued and pulled the new leather cover on a bit at a time). When finished it’ll need some time to outgas as the contact cement puts out a strong odor.
