So, many aren't aware of this but Subaru had a small powered underseat subwoofer (<80 watts) as both a factory option on some of their vehicles and available as a dealer accessory. It is so low powered it runs on the same circuit as their OEM radio via a T-harness and only has a 5 amp fuse.

    IMG_20201104_133610.jpg

It only has a 5" or 6" woofer and doesn't put out much, but it is enough to somewhat round out the completely anemic/missing low end of my stock 1st gen.

If you can find one cheap from a part out, junkyard or on ebay/Craigslist and just want a little bit of that missing octave, this may help.

I grabbed this one and its harness from an 05 Forester iirc.

I have an 05 access cab, which instead of having an OEM amp in the dash under the radio, puts it all the way in the passenger rear storage compartment. You'll need to pop 3 plastic clips out, slide the cover off and remove 3 10mm bolts for access.

This amp uses line level inputs, or in other words uses the same signal sent to the OEM speakers. Only 6 wires need to be tapped, as the amp turns on and off based on reading a signal from the line level inputs (power, ground and L/R channels). I used 3M T-Taps (cheap ones are crap, these are ok in the interior).

The harness it comes with was fortunately long enough once I had cut off the Subaru connectors (the ones that 'T' into their stock radio wiring). Routed the wiring forward in the center, alongside the trans tunnel and it comes out under my center console on the drivers side. It can just as easily go to the passenger side.

Fits well under my drivers seat (non-powered). Pic from the back with the seat fully forward.

Pic from the front with the seat fully back. I can reach the gain and low pass filter adjustments without having to remove it.

I did put adhesive velcro (cloth side) on the side next to the seat rail, just in case it slides over against it. Just to prevent any unwanted rattles/noise.

This a great write-up, thanks for this as I am looking into something similar to which I can mount under the one of the front seats.

Clearly don't expect it to punch but does it at least fill in that low's you'd expect? I find the gen 1 Tundra just has absolutely zero lows even with the factory deck.

    Thanks.

    It helps.

It's not great but goes from non-existent to something.

The aftermarket solutions with 8" woofers probably would do a better job but I'm happy enough for now.

I've since installed a 2017-2018 Toyota 86 radio which provides more power/better signal and it was a decent leap in sound quality, when combined with this sub.

I just bought a little Impreza with one of these in it but it got unplugged from the factory head unit and an aftermarket kenwood was installed trying to figure out how to wire it back in. Maybe you can help send me a pm if you have any ideas.

Another option is the Kenwood KSC-SW11. It's a compact 75 watt subwoofer that gets power from the fuse box and has a 10 amp fuse. I have had mine for 6-7 years in my 06 Double Cab. The sub won't rattle the windows but adds some bass and fills out the sound. I paid about $100 for back then. It's $150 an Amazon these days.

Fits perfect under the back seat on the passenger side

Yeah, I saw those and several others.

I happened to get this one for $10 and had connectors/wire already. Another one I paid maybe $80 or $100 a.couple years ago, still in that car.

Ive been looking at the Kicker Hideaway. 10 inch sub w/ 180w amp on board. Put it under driver seat and it can be tapped into the rear speaker. Crutchfield has it for $330. Sounds like a good Fathers Day gift to me.
