Are the dealerships fixing the vibration issue in the newer Tundys? (Video of issue added!)

    Hi all,

I have read multiple threads about the vibration type noise on start up of newer Tundras, mine has this problem, but it only happens when it has been sitting for a while. Now that it is cold though it is happening more frequently, and its a bit annoying for a new vehicle.

I am just wondering if anyone has complained to a dealership, and if so did they fix it, or do anything about it? Anyone know what it actually is as far as the problem goes?

    Thanks,

    -T

How new? Either I dont know what you mean or mine doesn’t do it. Don’t remember my 2010 doing it either. Both have the high idle at start though.

2020. A few others have complained about it on here, but not sure if there is a fix as of yet, or if anyone has tried. It literally does it when you first turn it on and maybe for another minute or so then it is quiet again. The noise seems to come from vibration of the dashboard area. Seems to be a 2019 and 2020 issues.

I’ve got a 2019 5.7L and know of no such vibration with mine and it sits a lot (just drive it today after setting for 3 days and fired up nicely.)

Wonder if it’s a 2020 issue. My 2018 sits a lot, I might drive her once a month. Sometimes, every other month and never experienced this vibration issue you speak.

Just started my 2020 doesn't have a vibration. It does, though, make a small roar, like I have a loud exhaust for a moment when I start it up after letting it sit for a couple days.

That roar is the engine cooling fan spinning up until the viscous fan hub releases and lets the fan basically freewheel.

Haven't seen this issue on my truck yet and it's been sitting quite a bit when I've been working from home. :fingerscrossed:

I have a 2020 and have never heard of any problem with vibration at start up. Are you sure it's not the cold start you are hearing/feeling?

That knock is awful! Not normal.

I think on a normal start up you hear the roar of the secondary air pump heating up the cats. Those pumps have a history of failure in older models. A lot of guys buy the bypass kit when they do fail and never fix them.

I haven't check if the sound is outside too, but basically when you start it there is a vibration noise in the dashboard area. It does not happen all the time though.

Sorry if I missed it above but what did your dealership service department say?

I didn't bring it there yet for the issues, I was just curious. I will mention it when I Bring it in for the 5K service in a couple months!

Hi, Finally got the noise on video. It is definitely worse when I am going up my hilly driveway!

I know, it sounds like something is causing the dashboard to rattle, for whatever reason. I did watch a Youtube video with similar noise and that guy said he fixed it by taking the temp clips off the windshield, as they were the source. I will let the dealership deal with it at this point....

Things make noises when it's -10C or colder.

I appreciate that response - you want a specific answer. I’ve just learned that startup noises when it’s below freezing are not worth the time to investigate. If it’s still happening when it’s warm then I look into it. Fluids are very thin on the 5.7 so warm oil falls into the pan fast and cold oil still takes a bit to circulate.

That almost sounds like rod-knock during startup (like the 4.7 iForce’s). What type of oil are you using in that temperature? Have you tried a thicker weight oil and see if that makes any difference? Good luck, and please let us know what you find out.
