My smitty built winch took a shit it started randomly engaging the winch on its own.
I decided to unhook the winch but now my battery took a shit too won't start. Tried jumping it bought a new battery that won't work either.
What fuse controls starting the truck?

There is a 10 amp IGN fuse under the hood. Its turning over just no ignition?

If I get a jump it'll turn over but no ignition. I checked that fuse and it looked to still be good. At this moment even with a jump nothing will turn on lights or anything.

It's acting very sporadically. Like I've got some sort of electrical gremlin.

Sounds weird, and I assume both cables are good and tight?

So looks like the 40 amp main was popped but now the only light I get Is the red lock one when the security system is on. The immobilizer light.

Is it possible for the immobilizer to be triggered and not allowing the truck to turn on?

Not familiar with the 2016 key. Do you have push to start?

If you do, you may be able to hold the FOB in front of the start button for 30 seconds and then try to start. Works on other Toyota models with push to start.

Immobilizer will allow everything but engine start. Including cranking, just not starting.

Do you have a voltmeter? I’ll run you through a few basic checks if you do.

It's a regular key just like an 07. I believe push to start didn't show up till 2018 or 19.

Then it's definitely not the immobilizer. I don't have shit besides the red little flashing immobilizer light..
    Yes I do.

So I don't think it's the main fuse/fuseable link since I get power to all of the individual fuses. But maybe I'm wrong I hope I'm wrong and it's just the fuseable link.

Little update. This is really weird when I hook up the ground for the winch it lets everything on the truck turn in but my battery is acting like it's too low to turn on. Tried jump but the truck wasn't having it.

I know your battery is new, but have you tested it? Also, is there enough cranking amps?

Is it the same as your last battery as far as CCA?
My next guess, based on ur ground wires post is a lose cable somewhere.

Ok, sounds like you have a ground issue then. First thing I would do is disconnect your winch ground cable again.

Turn your key to the ignition on position and leave it there while testing. This is important for these tests, even though nothing seems to be turning on.

Use your voltmeter to measure between the battery Neg. post (the actual lead post, not the clamp) and the engine, somewhere accessible and clean bare metal.

Also measure voltage from the battery negative post and the body - preferably not the ground wire bolt on the inner fender but something close that isn’t painted so you’ll get a good connection. Maybe a headlight or horn mounting bolt.

Let me know what you get on both readings.

Smaller by a bit but factory sized. They did not have a wide selection and I was desperate to fix this.

It was a ground issue very simple one too. Totally unrelated to the winch.
I did blow the fuse labeled main. Swapped that.
I pulled off the ground cable that connects to the fender right off the battery sanded it a little bit put it back on and boom truck works again.
It was acting so weird though I thought I had fried something. The immobilizer light flashing really threw me off.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions really appreciate it.

I test drove a few domestic 1 tons. Almost followed through but I can't deal with random break downs. They're so pretty though. Maybe next year still hoping toyota does something to tow more. Doubt it though so,
I'll be sticking Around for another 30k atleast probably more at this point I've got the truck how I like it. Might as well hit 300k and kill the miniscule trade in value left . And there isn't anything wrong with it I've beat the piss out of this truck and it's still fine. I'm running 7 to 10k oil change intervals, idling for hours on end. Got mud in my headlight housing trying to use my truck as a boat lol. My paint is pretty fucked up too but who cares it's a truck. I might just keep this truck and get something else too. We'll see I've got plenty of time and options.
