Since my Marine son cannot leave the area of Camp Lejeune (Jacksonville, NC area) for Thanksgiving, I'm driving down from SE PA.

We plan on fishing as much as possible over several days. Any recommendations for 4x4 Beach access with decent surf fishing? If so, where and what do I need to know?

    Thanks for any local input!

Ft.Fisher is probably the closest. You can buy day or year passes which are not worth it this late in the year.

North Topsail, Freeman Park/ North End at Carolina Beach, also FT. Fisher they all sell day passes. Closest to Jacksonville would be North Topsail.

Freeman Park is where we usually go...highly recommended..just an FYI you must have 4x4 in order for them to allow you admittance onto the beach...can’t wait to see some pics!

I almost forgot about North Topsail. I guess because its so small of an area.

Many thanks for all replies! I'm taking the Tundra, pics to follow.

Up here, I have to arrive with several items...fire extinguisher, tow straps, tire gauge, etc. Any word on this for NC areas? Are there air filling stations? Website to order passes and get info??? I'm happy to google myself, but have come up short.

No all you have to have is 4wd. Filling stations are near by and not that far of a drive. There is a attendant when you drive out that will get you a pass or some have a automatic machine like a parking deck. Enjoy this time of year dont bother coming in the summer. You won't make it out and will be shutdown due to over crowding.

I use the drive on in Southern DE all the time. I got a Valair portable compressor and it has been great. The one I got is pricey but there are some off brands with solid reviews you can get for peace of mind that you won’t have to search for an air station. They are always broke down here.

I think @Squatting Pigeon if I remember correctly wired a blank Curt trailer plug to plug it into the truck while running to air up instead of opening the hood.

good luck on the fishing adventure I am jealous

Thanks. I just recently mounted an underhood compressor but for my airbags.

I've been wondering if there's a dual port i could use (switchable) for on board air. One for the bags, another for the tires. In the meantime, I have a small compressor i use for my atv. Come to think of it, the airbag compressor is kinda small too. I guess it would work in a pinch.

I’ve used a manual bike pump to pump up a box truck tire. It’s just how much effort and time lol. Looks like you’re all set
