Prepping For a Long Sit

Hey guys. As I’m sure many of you guys are too, I am working from home starting today for the foreseeable future. We decided to take this time to have our driveway repoured as well. We left my wife’s car out but the truck will be in the garage for probably 2 weeks or so without being driven. Anything I need to do for the truck to get it ready to sit for awhile? I couldn’t think of much. It’s only 6 months or so old and the tank of gas is almost full. I appreciate it!

 

2 weeks is hardly a long sit.
She will be fine.

Edit: And I agree, two weeks will be fine. I sometimes garage vehicles for months at a time.

 

2 weeks??

Mine has been left at the airport longer than that. Used to put it away for the entire winter back when I had a beater for salty roads.

 

Good to hear most of you don’t think 2 weeks is long . Longest time I will have ever had to put a truck away for! Thanks for the assurance

 

It'll chill just fine for 2 weeks. I've been WFH since March. Mine has sat for a month once. No issues after that. I did nothing.

 

For added peace of mind you could always start it up a couple of times and let it run for a bit.

 

My truck sits for months at a time. It’s a 2019 and has 9000 miles on it for reference. I have some fuel stabilizer I add to the gas tank, I have a battery tender like someone already mentioned above and I purchased a car cover to cover the monster for extra protection from who knows what. Other than that, there is nothing else it really needs. I know some guys will put their vehicle on jack stands to prevent flat spots on tires. I don’t really know if that’s a real thing and I don’t do that.
Additionally, I have seen lots full of Toyota trucks sitting for months untouched and unattended and other than a battery jump they work just fine also.
Now, it is known that the stock Toyota Tundra battery sucks so ensure you have a charger on it. You “may” not need it, but you definitely want it.

Not sure if you live in the country, but you might want to put down some mouse traps just in case so they don’t make a new home under your hood.

 

Back in March, I ran mine to almost "E" and have been filling with Ethanol free fuel.

The only issue I'm seeing with extended periods of being parked are my rotors rusting...except under the pads so it feels like I have warped rotors. I pulled the rotors last weekend and hit them with a nyalox cup brush and it helped alot. I do have New rotors/pads on my shelf waiting for her to see daily use again.

 

I've had a company car and only put 1100 miles on the Tundra in 10 months. Its sits in the garage several months at a time. Full tank with sta bil, battery tender, mouse and roach traps all around peppermint oil sprayed in the engine compartment.

 

Your truck may experience mild depression not being able to stretch its legs on the roadways. Being cooped up in a confined space for two weeks, it’s important that you visit it often and admire its beauty.

 

Maybe but if that happens in just 2 weeks then I think you might need to get the truck some therapy if you expect it to endure these idle periods from now on.

 

This has crossed my mind. We haven’t had issues here in Denver metro area but I might put some traps out to be safe

 

Yeah think about cars being shipped here from China and such. They sit for quite a bit. Also the cars that sit on a dealer lot for months on end. Your fine
