2014 5.7 ATF flush - issues

    Hey guys,

    Just had a quick question that I have been unable to find an answer for.
    I would like to remove the ATF warmer from the side of the trans for better access to repair a bolt thru-hole. But am not sure if I can do this without losing any fluids.

    Long story - I snapped 6 - yes 6 - of the trans pan bolts during removal. Pretty bad design by Yota. These bolts could have been 5mm shorter and not all the way thru the lip of trans case. I cut the threads on the top side off, used heat, etc - no go. These bolts were complete seized in the threaded inserts in trans case, and also seized in the metal spacers on the gasket.

    I'm using E-Z LOK inserts(653-6) to replace the factory inserts I had to drill out. Looks like they will work well.

    OK - so I would like to dome-over the thru holes on top of case lip to prevent this rot in the future. I'm using Quik Steel putty for this. I am also using M6x1.0 20mm grade 10.9 replacement bolts everywhere - 5mm shorter than factory to accomodate not going thru.

    So, back to my question, can i remove the ATF warmer without losing any fluids? Looks like there are just 2 bolts holding it on. It would make life a lot easier for one of the hole repairs.

    I have taken a few off and only ever lost at most a cup(cause I had the thermo pinned open). Its not under pressure and the thermo should be closed which will keep the cooler and lines from draining. I would pull it and not even think twice about it.

    That's what I was thinking, just wanted another opinion before just yanking the warmer off there.
    I need to get these 6 inserts installed today, pan back on, and finish the flush process hopefully tomorrow.

    Just dont disconnect the coolant lines, only the atf lines. There was room on mine to unbolt from the trans and move it to the side.

    And I would leave the atf lines on initially until you are sure you cant move it enough to gain access to the pan bolts.

    I broke one pan bolt when I replaced my trans filter and gasket, I drilled it and put in a heli coil. I also went ahead and got higher grade bolts to replace all the original ones. Used never seize as well. I have a thread on it somewhere that has alot of good knowledge.
