It’s gone up to $98. Just make sure you mount the lock perfectly vertical otherwise it seems to not want to lock properly. I added a little metal tape to make sure it e stayed up right. If it gets tilted at all it unlocks fine but seems to want to not unlock properly every time

I followed @SnrDisregardo suggestion and opened mine back up and added rubber washers to the bolt holding the actuator in. It made a big difference on the sound, it is much more like any other door now. $0.86 at Home Depot for a 3-pack of 3/8 in washers, I put all 3 of them on there.

Maybe because I'm OCD it took me 2 and a half hours start to finish. I did take about a 30 minute break (hot as hell today). I just kept looking for spare parts i could use to connect the actuator to the locking mechanism. Got it hooked up and am thankful this thread is here. Lots of neat tricks after the OP

^^Did you come up with an interesting way to hook up the actuator to the mechanism?

I used some spare plumbing hanger I had and just used aviation snips and cut the sharp corners off. The big hole fit the mechanism perfectly. I put that piece I made under the lock piece as to secure it more than just sitting on top.

^^Great idea! I've got some somewhere in my garage...I bent my brass support piece so I'll give that option a go.

Wow! It has been over year since I did this write up. I haven't had any issues with the actuator slipping off or not working properly, has anyone had any issues? Hope everyone is enjoying their 20 dollar pop and lock :)

The key was extending that end piece with a thin piece of metal...

I just did this. It was super easy. I cut a piece off for a sink drain handle and used that for the extension. Works great. Glad I found this forum.

there are a few small screws that remove that assembly and allow it to be lifted enough to add the metal piece in.

    Nice work buddy!!

I know is a old thread but didn’t want to create a new thread just for this and the tip is totally worth

I had my pop&lock for about 3 years now, it worked good at least that I knew for about a year I guess, the thing sounded like it work but in reality it wasn’t. One day checked my tailgate and for my surprise wasn’t locked checked the thing and seems the actuator have lost all its torque

Talking with customer support they wanted around $50 bucks for the actuator replacement part I hadn’t a problem paying for that but I refused to do so because I had to give my CC info and no PayPal option available :/

Well, I decided to try the actuator on this thread and modify it to work with the Pop & Lock wiring and realized that the actuator is almost identical to the pop & lock one so can be interchangeable :D

Just remove the white plastic top of the actuator and that’s all to fit in the mount

    image.jpg

Remove the 2 screws and take out the old actuator

    image.jpg

    image.jpg

Align one of the original screw to the new actuator and save the other one because only 1 match the hole in the mount

    image.jpg

    image.jpg

Reinstall everything backwards and check for functions and now you saved a few bucks ;)

Everything work like a charm and for $16 is a steal, I could buy 2 or 3 more just in case for price of the manufacturer replacement parts

    image.jpg

Ohh don’t forget to reuse the wire conduit in the old pop&lock to the new actuator to keep all the wires safe

    image.jpg

I Hope this help for those of us with faulty Pop & Lock actuator.

Keep an eye on this, the actuator in their kit is really cheap and mine stopped working after a year or so, the thing sounded like it was working but was too weak to actually lock/unlock the tailgate.

if you ever run in this trouble check post #146 for my fix using the actuator in this thread and to me it feels like a stronger actuator

Did thid today and it went perfect until the last thing I did. Now I have to buy a new cylinder and key because I didn't use my glasses and see there was a c clip and thought it was a screw, with the slightest pressure broke the cylinder piece
