I’m getting r1 geomet slotted rotors and their oep pads installed today. I’ll post up some initial review when I get my truck back this evening.

Initial report is rotors are smooth, can’t feel the slotting at all. Initial bite and travel of the pedal are a little softer than stock, but hard braking is a lot stronger and the pedal stiffens up nice. Again these are the r1 concept geomet slotted calipers and their oep pads

Anyone use the EBC 7000 series Greenstuff pads. They are pricey, are they worth it??

I put these on my truck about 6 months ago. I am disappointed in the stopping performance. Rotors seem fine but when the brakes are cold they dont have as much stopping power as the OEM.

I’m going back to OEM rotors and pads, enough of the bullshit.

Yes, every rotor and brake pad combo will feel different. I think the powerstop brake isn't too bad, it probably works best once it get to the optimum temperature. I had a similar result with my Wrangler a couple of years ago.

By any chance, did you bleed you brakes? When I first swapped out my OEM rotors to the R1, my brakes felt extremely mushy. My friend helped me bleed the brakes and to my surprise, there was air pockets in the line. But after I bled them, they felt much better. The OEM setup had a solid feel to them and a great initial bite. So I have no idea how the air got into the lines? The reason I swapped out to Akebonos was due to the heavy dusting that the R1 off road pads created. The Off road pads had an okay bite and zero brake fade during my baja runs. I was just tired of the dark dust against my bronze wheels. Let us know how to OEP pads do! So far, the Akebono ASP works well with the R1 Geomet rotors. I am about 440 miles in since the brake job. Initial bite is 7/10, Dusting is low. Noise is non existent.

I had a shop due my brakes, I just don’t have time to work on my own stuff with how busy works been. It doesn’t feel like there is any air in the lines, i think because there is less surface area due to the slots that it just takes a bit more pressure to get the bite you get with blank rotors. Under hard braking they are a huge improvement over stock even with bigger tires.

How’s the dust with the Hawk ceramic? And how would you rate the stopping ability with those rotors/pads compared to oem?

W/out going down the "warped rotor" rabbit-hole, make sure y'all are torquing your lug nuts evenly. That's pretty much the only way these rotors will warp. Pad transfer is often confused w/ "warped rotor".

I went with raysbestos specialty performance rotors for my front with raysbestos element3 pads. So far they have been an improvement and I like them.

just curious, any issues with dirt and mud getting into the slots or holes and causing premature wear?

Pretty good question. I've been planning on getting drilled/slotted when it's time to change pads...never thought of them getting clogged up.

A friend of mine just mentioned that he read an article about it. But i live in So Cal, in area that's hot AF for several months out of the year. and despite the hunting/camping I do, 90% of my driving is on pavement (getting to camp, etc.). I'll be trying the powerstop kit when my brakes are due, but curious if anyone has had an issue with dirt/mud getting stuck on the rotors

Thank you for this breakdown. I just ordered pads and rotors for front and rear using your links provided.

    Tastefully enhanced...
Some of the best rotors are made by DBA...they are priced fair and will boast a noticeable improvement over stock...carbon-metalic pads will be great with DBA rotors too and show less dust

I've been running Hawk LTS pads and Advics rotors (OEM supplier) now for a while and can guarantee you would be hard pressed to find a better combo if braking performance is you top desire. They do wear faster than most pads and they are noisier than normal pads but when it comes to bringing your truck to a stop this combo is amazing. My morning commute consists of exiting I-20 in Atlanta at 80-90 MPH on a downhill off ramp with a stoplight at the bottom. Never once have I ever experienced brake fade OR any sort of "warpage" with 50k miles on this combination.

My perception is most people who think they have "warped" OEM rotors actually have pad deposits from using ceramic pads. These rotors are of a high carbon metallurgy and have fantastic heat dissipation characteristics, as well as being a considerable amount of thermal mass to absorb and dissipate heat. Here's an excerpt from an article on Motortrend:

"Modern asbestos-free and nonmetallic brake pads contain different resins in addition to the actual brake material itself. Some of these resins and materials transfer themselves to the rotor face so that there will be adherent (sticky) braking in addition to abrasive braking. In a nutshell, when a brake system is properly bedded in, there’s a thin layer of pad material on the rotors. When you use the brakes hard, such as when coming down a steep grade, the heat buildup causes these resins to loosen. When you stop the vehicle completely, such as at a red light at the bottom of an off-ramp after that steep hill, you actually make an imprint of the brake pad on the rotor, creating a high spot. By the time you get gas or stop for lunch (or whatever) the rotors have had a chance to cool off, but that high spot is still there. As little as 0.0004 inch can be felt through the pedal, and 0.001 inch can be downright annoying. Repeated use just leaves more material on the high spots, making the shudder worse."

My suggestion is to ditch the so-so ceramic pads for quality ones or just step up to semi-metallics. From the same Motortrend article:

"Buy the best-quality brake pads you can afford and stick with reputable name brands if possible. For heavy applications such as yours, a semimetallic pad is a good choice because they rely more on abrasive braking than adherent braking, and they have a higher maximum operating temperature."

Also, stick to high carbon rotors. Advics are one example. Hawk Talon, DBA, Stoptech, Brembo, and the Raybestos R-300 rotors that @bft305 has are high carbon rotors. There are others as well, these are just some off the top of my head.

At some point I may give the Raybestos EHT Element3 pads a try as I've heard great things about them, but for now I'm plenty satisfied with the Hawk LTS/Advics combo.

I second the Advics. I replaced all 4 of mine with Advics from RockAuto.com. I used Akebono ceramic pads because I have had great success with that brand as well. This combo is 2 years old and no complaints.

The cheapest I could find the ADVICS A6F048 is around $75 +shipping. ModernToyota has OEM for around $65 and free shipping right now. Do you guys feel that they are basically the same rotor? If so, makes more sense to buy the OEM for less. Just worry about where they’re made, because I see some OEM that are made in China. I was also looking at some Raybestos 980583: https://www.rockauto.com/en/cart/. I will be replacing pads with some of the suggestions on here. Any feedback on rotor choice would be greatly appreciated!

I bought OEM rotors and they were labeled advics. I also used toyota pads. They have some cheaper ones $50 or so-and some pads for $90-100 I used the expensive one as my friend at parts recommended them. He used the same for his truck. I never had a problem with original or my replacements.

Thanks for the reply. I see you were the last one to post in February, so how have they been holding up? I bought my Tundra used back in February, and has recently been pulsing when I hit the brakes hard in the front. Not sure when the guy before me had the brakes replaced, but it looks like they are power stop drilled and slotted. The holes have a lot of brake dust in them so I’m looking to go back to the originals. Also, The Toyota dealer is running a great discount for the 4th, so I’m wondering if it’s worth replacing the shims and spring clips as well? I did see two different sets of pads but the more expensive one said it’s only for the 2018 to 2022 Tundra. Do you know the part number for the pads you got? Thanks.

Sorry I do not have any part numbers. I did replace pins and all hardware as they love to salt the roads in NH.I only have about 3500 miles on them and they are good. The original rotors never warped on me. Plus I do not tow.

I think the pads are the same for 2007 maybe? The Toyota OEM part numbers for 2019 brake pads are front 04465-02440 and rear 04466-02340. If you need the parking brake pads the number for those are 46530-34010. You can verify these numbers by going to the Toyota parts web page and searching for your vehicle.

EBC slotted & dimpled rotors just went on front and rear, with the Yellowstuff pads. Man, what a nice upgrade. At around $150/wheel I'm very happy, smooth grippy brakes, and adjusting the parking brake while I was at it was totally worth it.

Hopefully ModernToyota is legit...just ordered pads and rotors for a total of $402. Couldn't find anywhere else cheaper :D
