    Want some input here;

    I'm in San Diego - we only have Leer and Snugtop dealers here; I want a taller shell, which limits my selection.

    Today I visited local Leer and Snugtop dealers; Both shells look well made and it appears that either would do the trick - but the prices seem steep, and there looks like there is *zero* price competition - the price is the price (which seems to be full retail - and I do NOT do full retail for anything more expensive than a dress shirt!) - Are there any good web sites with discount prices I might use to grind these guys?

    thanks!

    The topper industry is small...Leer, ARE, (Snug top mostly left coast) and Leonard are the only brands I recognize. I have owned a few ARE toppers and each time have been happy with the look, fit and finish. I currently have the ARE Z cab high series which has served me very well since install in 2014. It was expensive ringing up new at a little over $2k color matched with rear window slider and carpeted inner roof shell. It's a nice well made topper and I like it.

    Having said all this, you might look on Craigslist. At times there are a few great deals on used toppers. But they are usually scooped up fast. The trick is also finding one that fits your truck bed and meets your needs. With topper production such a small niche industry they don't discount much at all, this is my experience. Good luck!

    Yeah, I tried that - the problem is that the 2006 four door has a kinda funny bed - 6'5", kinda wide.

    I've been doing a ton of on-line reading about the differences between the main brands (they seem trivial) and how there is clearly a full-tilt price-fixing situation afoot - lord, I *HATE* paying full price for anything. I visited a Leer dealer (they were kinda annoying), a Snugtop dealer (MUCH better - lotsa good info) and tomorrow I'm going to check out a local ARE dealer. So far, leaning to the Snugtop for two reasons: Guy at the dealer was great, and they have a feature I like - a fold *up* window. That sounds pretty great to me.

    Good Luck! sounds like with your requirements a new topper maybe your only option.

    Well, I did as much homework as I could. What I learned was this: The three big brands are more or less the same and only vary in the smaller options. They are all priced about the same (which is crazy high) and in my case, I'm kind of stuck getting a new shell, since my 2006 Tundra is the 4 door flavor.

    I went with the Snugtop for three reasons: 1) They offered some features I could not find in the other makers (Fold *up* front window and locking rear window that can be easily unlocked from the inside; 2) They were offering a re-enforced top (the sportsmans package) for free as a special this month and 3) The salesman was good - gave me lots of information, did not push me toward anything - just gave me data. When I told him I won't buy without a discount, he added it all up and took off about 10%, so I'm pretty okay with it. If anyone cares enough to want details, I can share.

    thanks for the info.
