@ssrgeoff How much of a PITA was it to link on the CVT awning to those crossbars? Just got the approval from the CFO to procure an awning to slap next to the RTT. BAM!

@BGoodiE It's never too hard. I actually used an ARB bracket on my last shell. I flipped it upside down and drilled through my crossbar with mounting bolts. so the Awning hung lower than the crossbars and was easier to reach. Anyway, these crossbars have channels in the for anchors or t-slot screws that you could run on this type of bracket.

Just saw this, sorry it took so long to respond.
It's been off-road (fire-road type of stuff and a little bit of 4wd needed type of stuff) but I'm not crawling this thing at all or doing rubicon. Just getting to lakes and stuff. So, far it's worked great!

Gonna have to check this out at the next meet. I was wondering the same thing about how to mount an awning to crossbars. I thought I would have to add another crossbar going the other way with something like this.
but I might be over complicating things.

Yes you're overcomplicating it. I wish I saved pictures from my old awning and 04' tundra. However, you're in luck. I found a video that describes exactly what i did and even uses the same brackets.
Now, while watching the video take into consideration a few points.

-I only used the crossbars on the shell and had a shorter awning than he's using. I believe mine was 6'.

-I flipped the bracket upside down on my crossbars so the awning height was even with the crossbar and I had an easier time reaching it. Ran that way for 4 years. No issues.

-You could drill your crossbars, but with the CX HD they have accessory plates on the end. I have pictures earlier in this thread. They are about 3/4" x 4". It might be easier to match those holes and re-drill the Awning bracket for T-Slot bolts.

    - Have a buddy help you. Just like the video, as I was putting everything in place one side of the awning fell and scratched up my shell and truck. I was rushing and doing it by myself.

Still waiting, very impatiently, for my cap. I was told December. Holding out hope for end of October...

Really? I think mine was about 6 weeks.
While your waiting.... I think I purchased my ARB awning off of AutoAnything for 119 with a sale or coupon.

Sorry, I don't get on here much at all or if ever as of late. The RTT I have you can purchase mounts that go directly into the tent that hold up the awning. Opposite side has a shower curtain.

All good. That's a dope way to put it on making it all one unit. What kind of tent are you running? Ol lady and I are debating camper or upgrading the RTT.

At this point I'm still waiting for the cap! Patience is wearing thin... Not prime tent and awning season so I'll have time to faux around with the bars and see how I can attach.

Had to revisit this page and look at the cap since I'm still waiting on mine. I'm starting to like having an open bed too much. They said Mid-December so any day now but it's like when you really have to piss and you get closer and closer to the toilet and a little pee starts to leak in anticipation. Just got 2 Gunner Kennels for the dogs and looking at the internal frame I might be screwed on space to fit the Kennels...

No I don't . I had some laying around that i tried but they didn't work. I need to go to the hardware store and find some nice zin coated ones. I could have sworn I saw a random post somewhere with the part number or accessory number for the fasteners from A.R.E. I might give them a call today and see it it's a real thing...

Got it! Ordered 9/30 installed 12/23! Dogs are loving it! I love it, she loves it. Super happy with it. Although my local shop that I had to go through left some to be desired. I paid a lot of money for this cap and no interior carpeting. After install when I picked it up no one came to show it to me and give me a run down. Terrible customer service.

looking forward to slapping the Rtt up there and getting out of town! Plans for the decked system have us looking to get kennels that fit. The internal frame limits the size of the kennels we can run. But hey with safety comes extra measures. Super glad I found this thread when I was searching for the perfect fit cap. This is it.

That's awesome! Love mine as well. Yeah the carpet thing was odd and I'm sure frustrating, but I don' think you'll miss it.
Glad you finally got it...that was a long haul.

@NoRcptn Did the dealer that installed yours put the silicon into the spots where the post goes up through the shell? I've got some leaks coming in. I do have the rubber grommets but no sealant.

That’s sucks! Not that I’m aware of. Unboxed it and put it on the truck. No leaks so far.

Maybe an ARE thing. Jeesh. Pay top dollar and get corners cut. Need to find a good silicone to seal them up.

I’d take it back if it’s not to far or too much of a hassle. The rubber boots on top of the shell can be slid up and silicones underneath if DIY.

Hey NoRptn or BGoodiE, could I get one of you to take a quick measurement for me on your trucks/CX HD caps? I need to know the height from the bed to the top of the interior of the cap. Basically how tall of an object could I stand up in there between the HD framing? I'm picking up my new Tundra today and want to pull the trigger on a cap this weekend, I'm trying to decide between the CX and MX and I need at least 41" back there. And BTW, current wait times are 14-18 weeks on ARE caps...

    TIA!

@Aerotugpilot We both have the Decked system in our beds. I can take a measurement to the Decked then add 12". Trucks at home. MAN 14-18 week lead time. Ouch.

    Man it's difficult to measure
. From decked to reinforced lowest part of shell is right at 29.
From ribs in floor to top of deck is 12. Which is right at 41". But that's tight and snug. Depending on my tape angle it could be 12 or 12.25.
This doesn't make it easier for you. But let's see @BGoodiE 's measurements for the tale of the tape.

we have a winner. You’ll get 42”. Now that comes with a caveat. You don’t have 42” entering the back of the truck. See norcptn pics. If you can twist the object you’re golden pony boy.

I’m going with length over thickness. Easier to poke from further away. Haha

areotugpilot- do what you will with the information, but not that neither one of us told our cap center either way about the carpet. I was pissed I didn’t get it but as you see I run dogs and atleast I don’t have carpet to hold the stink. Norcptn I believe has a dog too snd pointed out my small win.

side note, the windoors are a must have!

Thanks @BGoodiE and @NoRcptn! That's exactly what I needed to know. I'm a cyclist so it's just bicycles that are going to go back there (including a tandem) so I'll double check some measurements but that should work fine. On my Tacoma I had to get the extra height roof on the cap for that truck. Picked up the truck this evening...pretty stoked.
