So bummed. Got the initial estimate from the insurance company for the lady that hit my Pro. A bunch of aftermarket parts and I see no panel replacements. The passenger rear quarter and tailgate are beat up. Ugh. Tell me they aren’t gonna try to straighten them.

That sucks. Dig your heels in and fight to make them fix it right. They want to save as much as possible. That's not your problem.

Posted just recently on this forum for a similar accident: argue for your "Diminished Value" settlement.

My 07 got rearended badly. Got the other party's info. Contacted my insurance company. They took things over. They notified the other party's insurance. I chose my repair shop. Got estimate. Got my truck fixed. My insurance dropped my deductible since not my fault. My insurance paid the repair bill and then charged the other party's insurance. Met Life is great.

Find a Toyota dealer near you that has a Toyota certified collision center and demand it be fixed there. Your truck had only OEM parts when it got hit, it should be put back together the same way, to Toyota specs.

If you use the other party's insurance they will nickel and dime things. I happened to have a Service King near me. Very good reputation and Service King is a preferred shop for Met Life and Enterprise was just down the street. Dropped my truck off. Enterprise brought me a rental truck. Chevy Craperado. I had zero out of pocket $ thru the whole process. The Service King manager was in communication with my insurance and was made aware the accident was not my fault and wrote up the estimate accordingly. Got a new rear bumper, new OEM driver side bed panel and OEM tailgate panel. My OEM tow hitch was barely dinged and still got a new OEM hitch and they list for $1700. Crazy actually. The whole bed was removed and was repaired to good as new. No frame damage. My insurance premium DID NOT GO UP. I wouldn't even think of relying on the other party's insurance to pay for a quality repair but that's just me:thumbsup:

I am thinking just the same thing. I may need to go through my insurance and let them fight it out with the other persons company. Hell the rental they allowed me is a crappy economy Nissan. They have Allstate. I am really not feeling like I am in good hands!

The lady that hit me was with Progressive. There were several witnesses to the accident and I had a Colorado State Police accident report in hand with the lady admitting fault. She wasn't hurt too bad. The air bags messed her up a bit and was fairly dazed. Her newly leased 2018 Corolla was totaled. Progressive put up no resistance at all to my estimate since everything was cut and dry.

Doesn’t matter who’s insurance you use, you have every right to take it to the shop of your choice. But any time we’ve had this happen, we route it through our insurance and let them do what we pay them to do. When it’s not your fault, they are on your side to get it fixed right.

Not sure if OP is getting screwed. Just going by his post. I simply wouldn't let the opposing insurance handle things , especially when I'm not at fault and my truck is fucked up. I want my insurance representing my best interests and not the other party's insurance who is footing the bill.

When my 2008 was hit in a parking lot their insurance pressed for aftermarket parts and my insurance wasn't much help. I took the truck to the certified Toyota body shop owned by the family that owns some local dealerships. The estimator there showed me that while they could note OEM parts on the repair invoice they only used Toyota parts. We went into the repair area and he physically showed me so I could be sure. They made the repair and I was very satisfied and the parts are Toyota. Working closely with the person at the repair center can be important for getting what you want.

A Progressive claims agent called me to touch base about the accident. She was very polite and stated that she had confirmed things with my agent. No issues at all. Very easy to deal with. I used to have Progressive. Decent company.

We've used Allstate for years, never had a complaint with them. You can't expect someone else's agent to represent you any more than you'd expect someone else's attorney to work in your best interests. Contact your insurance company and have them work with the offending party's insurance company. Even if it takes several years it'll get worked out. My insurance went into legal battle for about 18 months to settle with a rancher who owned the cows I hit on the interstate. My insurance paid up front for my vehicle repairs and then went after the owner for reimbursement.
