Nice! I have two PSA AR-15s, the recent one was one of their super cheap kits that just needed a stripped lower. Cost like $400 for everything lol. Never had an issue with both, not that I shoot a lot, but a couple thousand rounds and not a single issue with either.

Just shot a few rounds off out back. The gun know it all neighbor wandered over after 3 shots to supervise. Great guy but wanted to get a few rounds under the belt first. Oh well could have a neighbor that doesn't understand what living outside city limits means.

Picking up my starter AR today for 699 from my gunsmith, who sells his own builds. They’re going fast around here. About a week ago you could get brand name stuff in the 7-800 dollar range in a couple places. Nothing under 1k now, most 1200 and up. I was going to give it another week or so but when I called around and saw how fast everything disappeared I decided to do it today.

My guy only has a few AR pistols and rifles left, then he’s at the mercy of his parts vendors which I suspect will get tight after this batch.

I also just bought my first AR. Got the PSA-10 bc I wanted .308 and this one was in stock for $900 including tax. Still waiting for it to be delivered. I guess it looks ok but I didn’t really buy it for the looks. Can’t wait to shoot it! Never had much interest in building one.

Like most things, I just dive into the deep end. The only AR I’ve ever bought complete was a left-handed one I got for my dad. I find way more satisfaction in building them one piece at a time.

I did buy a complete PSA upper for my “unicorn hunter” though... but it’s got a Spike’s Snowflake lower and lots of other customizations once I got it. Yes, it’s ugly... that’s an inside joke.

    34C6FD06-5EF8-401C-A9FB-8F606AFD3006.jpg

My favorite is still my first though... started out building a Mark 12 Mod H clone, but then got sidetracked with things that were improvements on some of the original Mk12 components. It is an 18” SPR that is boringly accurate out to 600+yds.

just realized I don’t have any pictures of the SPR... gonna have to fix that!

I’ve got an unfinished 80% AR lower... never done one of them yet.
But I have done a P80 Glock 19, and P320, P220, and P229 Sigs. I plan on doing a Ruger 22/45 too, but having a hard time finding a barrel for the build.

This was my first AR.. You've only opened yourself up for the rabbit hole.. I've changed alot since this last picture and have added more toys to the collection.

Having extensive military and personal experience with various brands, might I also suggest a quality bolt carrier group. I've seen lesser quality metal in lesser quality guns create failures. I'd agree, a nice battle is nice for accuracy and longevity. A crummy trigger can be overcome as a good shooter, but a better trigger makes a better shooter. A failed BCG means you stop shooting.
I've spent anywhere from $700-$2k+ on ARs. On lower quality I'd replaced the BCG. That being said, PSA does generally out out nice stuff at a nice price. Therefore, buy an extra and have on hand just in case OP.

I want to post that I am not endorsing PSA, I have the pleasure of having a gun store the same size as the old K-Mart it is in. I really wasn't that up on all the mail-ordering that goes on for firearms and how big PSA is in that world when I posted their name. I feel for the ones that have no local choice and can't run a few miles down the road a get what you want. Support local if possible, I do now with my ammo.

16” 556 on top and 16” 223 Wylde on bottom.

Since picking up AR#1 I learned how easy it is to pick up separate complete uppers and lowers and put them together at your leisure. So I got AR#2 on the bottom via a couple different purchases and since then I got rid of the last of our vehicle payments.

My wife will probably end up wishing I still had a car payment.

My problem isn't AR's - it's Sigs. I've now got two MCX pistols and one MCX "hybrid" (MCX pistol upper on a registered SBR AR lower) along with an MPX pistol that have all taken up home in my safe. I need to get them all out for a family photo one of these days...

I put one together a few years ago and it is my baby. I haven’t been able to accessorize the way I want - life has gotten in the way and I don’t have the time to shoot nearly as much as I used to. My daughter is a nationally ranked shooter in precision air rifle and is climbing the ranks in small bore as well. She belongs to the team at my range (izaak Walton wildlife achievement chapter). The coaches there are incredible people and she absolutely loves it. Wants to go to the coast guard academy.
Anyway, here she is (my AR - not my daughter)

That's just the start...you've got the receiver. Everything else is upgradeable.

It's sort of like buying a SR and turning it into a TRD Pro. Handguard, trigger, grip, stock, sights, optics...

Welcome to the club @TomC843! Looks like a good AR for the price. Good additions would be optics, whether that be a low power scope or red dot, a fore grip, and a trigger. There’s a million ways to mod an AR, I have two stripped lowers that've been sitting around for a year, and I’m still trying to decide on what to build them into. Might do one “Recce” style and the other a 300 BLK SBR with a can...

I prefer to build as well. Today my wife is out picking up some parts we had cerakoted for her next build.

I typically build Aero Precision, but have used PSA and others before as well.

Don't change the handguard! Enjoy your retro looking AR, keep it as is and shoot the hell out of it.

Build a second AR from the ground up exactly the way you want it. =]

Lol I’ll probably keep it the way it is out of sheer laziness. It shoots like a dream and I don’t need to spend the money on aesthetics.
