Man that sucks. Been there. Hopefully the guy who hit you was insured at least.

Make sure to check your frame, just got done with this, albeit much worse. Nonetheless, our frames like to get a hop in them from being rear ended.

Yeah. They had insurance. It took a pretty good smack. The exhaust needed pried away from the wheel to be able to drive home. I am hoping it didn’t get into the frame. 2020 has not been good to me. My daughter totaled my 2013 TSS which got me into the pro. Now this.

Ouch. Sucks... hope that things get worked out, and hope no one was hurt. The truck can be fixed... messed up backs, necks, and extremities take a lot longer to heal.

Lady seemed ok. Will know better when the adrenaline wears off. But you are right. The truck is iron. Her car was totaled. Had all sorts of stuff oozing out. She had a 2017 Camry. Concerning that the air bag never deployed. No skid marks so I assume she was doing the speed limit when she hit me. 45 mph

    Ouch.
My older daughter had someone take a left turn in front of her barely a month after she got her license. She was going ~50 and had no time to react. Flipped her Jeep Liberty over into the ditch, airbags all went off, annihilated the front end of the Jeep and the whole passenger side of the lady’s Rav4. Took 9 months of chiro and massage before she stopped having neck and back aches. Only took us two weeks to find a replacement car.

Ouch, sorry bro. Had that happen to my Explorer a few years ago about 4 months after I bought it. So irritating. Be sure to get a Diminished Value payment from the insurance agency. No reason for you to get hit with the "one accident" ding on the truck's paperwork when you go to sell it.

I am glad you said something about diminished value claim. I didn’t even know they existed. I assume this is something my insurance will handle with theirs? Not sure. But I will be asking some questions on it.

Diminished value claim! Learn something every day. I've been victim to such carnage and it takes a lot of time for me to get over it...and beer. My Dad, a sports car addict, would consider the car ruined with such damage - even if repaired perfectly. His car would be for sale or traded-in immediately. I've learned that the our worldly possessions, like us, are subject to damage and failure. Things are going to happen, too many careless people, distracted, etc. that make our metal marvels a battleground.

It is something you seek from the insurance company of the person that hit you. If I remember correctly, mine was about 10ish% of the car’s value. I have a friend that sells cars tell me that was a reasonable amount. My cousin got hit a year or two later and hired a lawyer for the DV stuff. There are firms that only do DVs and just keep a %. He got closer to 20% from his claim and I think the firm kept 30%.

    Good luck

Kenny, glad that you are ok. That is what really matters. The DV discussion is excellent. Think about being in the market for a used truck, I would certainly check CarFax for info. about previous crashes.

Mine was just totaled, similar circumstances but more damage.

Here’s what I learned about DV.

First thing, pretty much, get a lawyer. Not all states allow DV claims. In the ones that do, you take the claim up with the offending parties insurance.

The challenge is you need a pre accident appraisal. You need some form of documentation that shows what your vehicle specifically was worth within the last month or so. If you don’t have that you can try, you will need to pay for a professional appraisal to estimate the value of it prior, currently and then again after repairs.

The consensus for the few lawyers I spoke with is that it’s a hard battle to win. Luckily the Pros have such a large value used, so it’s still possible. If it were a SR it would be very hard. If the value is low the DV will be equally low and more likely to be declined.

Basically this is an arbitration issue, the other insurance can say no. Hence the need for lawyers. As crappy as it sounds you use them to press the other party on all related matters, injuries, psychological issues, etc. to press your claim. You might not get DV, but you might get a reasonable pain and suffering claim. It’s a shit show, I hate that I’m dealing with it. For me the damage was so expensive I was happy to have it totaled, the DV fight would have been brutal. Potential loss of over 10-15k due to a full frame up rebuild.

Hope yours is a simply bumper replacement. If the cost of repair is low the chances of DV success are low, but the actual loss of value will likely be none.

Have your differential inspected as well. I was rear ended once and the impact caused the ring gear to crack; damage didn't show up for several hundred miles and after the case was settled.

I read up on it a bit ad 10% sounds right from a formula I found. Value times 10% for the start. And then they throw multipliers on it. Multiplied by 1 if there is big damage. Only goes down from there.

Thank you! I am glad I am not seriously injured or the lady who hit me. I guess in Texas they have to ticket the at fault person. The cop asked me what I wanted to do. I said to just give a warning. She is gonna pay enough in insurance premiums, etc as it is. Was just an accident. I feel bad for her.... and my Pro. Nicest truck I have ever owned. But you hit the nail on the head....no serious injury. Metal can be replaced.

The pictures in the dark are not good by any means. The tailgate is cocked up and to the left. The wrecker service that took her car away had to use a pry bar to get the sweet sounding exhaust out of the tire. Time will tell. Sucks we have to deal with it. I am certain the lady was distracted by the vibrant rainbow directly in front of us.

Fascinating...I didn't have to do any of that. Just a conversation with the other insurance guy and got it going. Maybe because my rig was so new, there was nothing to argue. Or maybe it varies state-to-state. I think it becomes much more difficult once the vehicle is a few years old to assess the value that it is only possible on newer cars. Sorry to hear it's such a PITA for you....

I looked closer in the daylight. About a 2 inch gap at the bottom of the bed to cab and 1 inch at the top. Both sides. Something is bent.

If its not totaled make sure to get the diminished value as stated above. The insurance company will not bring it up because a lot of people don't know about it.

Odd, your in WA right? So am I. Mine wasnt so bad actually, after 3 weeks it was totaled, so no worries on chasing DV, but it was a run around initially. Mine was 10mo old, so still new.

I was rear ended once in a leased 1 yo sedan. Asked about the DV to insurance of the guy that crashed me and they were not willing to pay it, I did my best fighting for it without hiring a lawyer and they ended up saying that since the car is leased, the captive should be the one making the claim. I don't know if that was true or not, but I stoped arguing for it right there. After that, everybody advised me to return the car at lease end and forget about it.

My wife’s ‘17 Forster got smashed up summer off ‘18 while my youngest was learning to drive. A girl pulled out in front of them while they were coming around a corner...$19,600 in damage on a car worth $34k new. Why they didn’t total it, I’ll never understand. :notsure:

Someone told us about going for DV, so we did. Our insurance actually put us in touch with an appraiser that specialized in DV stuff. In the end we got about $5k for it, which conveniently paid for the younger kid’s first car.
