    Hey All,

Need your opinion. I have a 2009 Tundra with only 35,000 miles on it that I’ve had for a year. Not a dent or ding in the body but the roof and hood have multiple tree sap spots from previous owner parking under a tree that annoy the hell out of me. The rocker panels on the doors also have some scuffs and scratches on it. From afar and to the naked eye, it’s a beautiful looking truck. For $2,200 I can get the hood, bumper, and door issues addressed. It’s not worth painting the whole thing. My mechanic thinks I’m crazy because “it’s an 11 year old truck and you should just drive the bullet proof engine and enjoy it.” I have one body shop guy saying I should trade it in while the equity is still there if the paint is going to drive me nuts. Another body shop guy said to paint the spots that annoy me if I love the truck and I do love it. Not sure If it’s worth the paint and wrestling with the decision. Thoughts?

Maybe try detailing it yourself to see if it improves the look.

I’m a detailing machine and they won’t buff out. The sap killed the paint.

Only 35,000 miles:eek: paint that sucker and drive it til the wheels fall off. It's just barely broken in. You got another 15 years or more at that rate.

I second the wrap. I wrapped my camper top. People don't know till I tell them. Just smooth the spots and wrap over.

If you do it yourself. Indeed. I spent I think $160-$180 on vinyl. With enough left over to wrap some other things when I get time. Color is extremely close but not perfect. I'm ok with that. The wrap has slightly brighter metallic in it. Oracal 970.

$2200 seems a bit high. Have you got a few quotes?

I would paint it. You could do a wrap but a good wrap will cost just about the same. You could do it yourself but if you never have it maybe a little tough.

Where are you? I got quotes to paint my entire front clip and cab for $1,200 to $3,000 and I need rock chips filled etc. I think the $2,200 is high and you could do better

I say paint the hood and roof and leave the rocker panels as they will get beat up again. Keep the truck if you like it. My 2008 only has 70K miles and I can't decide whether to keep it or sell it too, but my paint isn't scarred like yours.

Go with the best body shop you can find if you paint it. If you, like most of us are very ocd about our trucks it is worth it. My last truck was a F150, the detail shop at the dealer burned a spot the size of your fist with the wheel in the drivers door right by the handle. eventually agreed to fix it and they sent it out to the discount shop (unknown to me at the time). The color match was never able to be good enough and it looked horrible, and peeled in 3 months so ended up taking it to a reputable shop. Look for the shop that has a few high end cars sitting out back, it is always cheaper to pay once, and have it done by the best then pay for the job twice. With an 11 year old truck it may be worth spraying the whole thing as it will be tough to get an exact match on it to account for fade/road wear.

My vote is get a couple more quotes and paint it. You will much happier. The mileage is extremely low for the year.

This right here^^^^. Paint the hood to fix those ugly-ass spots you have to see through the windshield, DIY touch-up the roof spots if down to the primer (do nothing if it's just the clearcoat), and leave the rest. Drive it till the wheels fall off and count the money you've saved. And, stop parking under trees...if the birds don't ruin your paint, the sap will. :D

My brother has a 2003 Tundra and my compadre drives a 2005 Taco. Both were parked outdoors and suffered from oxidation of the clear coat on the roof and hood.
My brother's rig had some damage done to the tailgate and my compadres vehicle had a nice dent in the driver's side fender.
Both of them wanted to keep their vehicles and got these issues addressed ~ now they're smilin' even though it cost them a few bucks in doing so.
    It's all in what's important to you . . .

Hey all. Just wanted to check in and tell you I got the front bumper, hood, and lower door rockers painted for a much better $1,500 price. Got a bunch of stuff buffed out too. I’m really happy with it. Appreciate all your responses!
