I know the one you provide with the kit is better than the stock one, but neither do anything if the thermostat isnt open. I don’t think mine opens until around 195. Unless it partially opens or something cause of the wax type substance and the hoses just don’t feel that hot. But it seems like they would with fluid at 190 going through it.

I know it’s been asked before and there was no definite answer on when the thermostat opens. If people are seeing steady or average 185, then it would have to be at 185 or less.

Nope. I just use the little arrows at the bottom of people's posts to flip back in the posts and see what they said.

TC does not matter. It goes up and down. Pan temp is what I was worried about.

TC heats up no matter what. I believe it was @Ruggybuggy who said you'll never stop that, and that the TC will cool rapidly because of the low pan temps.

On the normal drive, it would bounce up 10 degrees higher than the pan and the within 10-15 seconds come right back down. Most of the time it was the same as the pan.

My liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger utilizing the power of cryogenics will prevent converter temperatures in excess of 60°F. Using transmission service life from 2018 and earlier ATF temperatures I have applied a linear extrapolation and can confidently predict transmission lifespans in excess of 750,000 miles.

I Missed this , I was under impression that TC will not go as high with cooler . It makes sense though as the friction is there no matter what you do .
In my personal application and the way I tow( I don't race when I have my kids on board going camping) , I guess I don't need the cooler , 215 pan on average is perfectly acceptable for me , i see upper 230 on TC when stop and accelerate and goes down fast as soon the TC locks up , I will service transmission when i hit 30k and go from there.

I towed my boat pre-cooler or OBD monitor from Charleston up to north of Charlotte back over the summer. I was very concerned what my fluid would look like (I drained some to look at it). It was still ruby red. Granted, that was only a 600 mile trip pulling 6,000#, and the truck only has 17k on it when I installed the cooler. But I was surprised bc another guy posted his and it was black (which is fine too) and his Blackstone results were fine.

I tow only locally, about 20 miles round trip each time. Figure I do that 60x a year, its only 1200 miles. I travel for work and log about 35-40k highway miles a year, so the cooler was a toss up for me. What pushed me was I plan to keep this one until about 250k miles.

Yeah but then you’d think once it’s over 195 it’ll never go back below that, with the thermostat opening at 200 and coolant at around 195 flowing through the “warmer”. But I’ve read where a few were seeing around 185 with the kit.

Um... that's 60 easy payments of $1200. Only 59 to go! Please dont tow anything until youve recieved the kit. Probably shouldn't drive it at all till then.

Remember the thermostat may open at 195F BUT will not fully close until 185F?. I have seen this on numerous car thermostats as well! I had a 1965 Cobra and could not get the oil hot in winter with 180F water thermostat. It had a huge cooling system. Thermostat opened at 180F but didn't fully close until 165F with my boiling water on stove test. I installed a 195F thermostat which closed at 180F. Soooo similar service our trans thermostat open at 195? but with the exceptional cooler it drives the temperature down and the thermostat starts to pinch off at 185F and that is why most folks see temps in the high 180's which is PERFECTO!!!!

That makes sense. I was thinking more of an open/closed at a certain temp. Not an open and then slow close at a lower temp.

The transmission already has a sensor. Get an OBD reader and app for your phone or a scangauge. There are instructions in this thread.

I tried that and I get no data for the transmission (OBD reader has ability to read 3 transmission inputs - transfer case. etc?). Figured it has to be that I didn't have factory towing package and no sensor was installed.
