My 4.88 gears came in and I wanted to know what is a good price for the install? What would be way over priced? The Auburn LSD will be going in also. I've never had gears changed before so I have no idea on labor. Thanks in advance.

I was given 2 prices. One shop was 4k. Included ring and pnion. Other was 2k and did not include ring and pinion.

My installer had issues with the shim packs included. Had to get them from nitro, tool a couple weeks.

It's not near as difficult as you may think it is. Get a cheap harbor freight mag base and indicator and go for it. I did mine on my Jeep and it turned out great. Saved me thousands of $$ and you will know it's done right.

I'm my area it's common to see around $600 for the labor on each set of gears. You may also find that some shops won't install your own parts or will but they won't warranty them. Keep us posted on what you find. My quote so far to do my gears to 4.88 labor and materials is $2,100. That's also because I know the main manager.

A few weeks ago I called one of the local 4wd shops that my brother has had a bunch of trucks built at. The owner had a 14 Tundra crewmax with the 12" bulletproof lift for a while so i figured he would have experience with the Toyota's. I was surprised when he told me not to re-gear with 35's. He did say his labor was about 500 an axel though to answer your question.

$2K sounds about right then again you are in the bay area so they will probably charge you more.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I made an appointment today for April 3rd. It's the earliest I could get in. I got a good deal with a neighbors recommendation so I don't want to post the price.
