    Hey Guys,

Edit: The original group buy discount is no more. That being said, we still have a modest discount available through the end of Februaryr.

AllTechSource.com has agreed to extend the WeBoost and Wilson Pro Signal Booster Group Buy for forum members until February 28, 2021.

If you are interested in participating in the group buy, please utilize the chat feature on AllTechSource.com or send me a PM (whichever you prefer).

    What is a cell booster?

Basically, if you are in an area where there is a weak cell signal, they pick up that weak cell signal and boost it. If there is no cell signal, there is nothing to boost.

    So, do they work?

The short answer is maybe. It depends on several factors, but the family at Lifestyle Overland did a review on them somewhat recently. The consensus is that yes, they can have a noticeable improvement in cell coverage.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0eoj2nmjgs

What carriers do they work with?

Good question. As I understand it....all of them!

    What about 5G?

Again, as I understand it, they are 5G ready!

So where do I see which units are available?

The discount code will be site-wide on alltechsource.com.

Anything else to sweeten the deal?

How about free shipping on orders over $100!

    What about international orders?

Sorry, the vendor doesn't do international sales. While, they do ship to Canada, those members will have to pay duty, tax or brokerage fees charged by UPS.

    Anything else?

Yes. Out of respect for the vendor, please do not post the details of this group buy (discount amount or promo code) on other forums. That said, you are welcome to direct someone to this thread and encourage them to become a member.

Discount amount and promo code can be given via PM or utilizing the chat function on AllTechSource.com. Just mention the CowboyTaco Group Buy.

    My pleasure!

I've replied to a pretty good number of PMs. If y'all are still watching this thread, I hope that you will post up with unit you ordered, and why you picked that one.

For instance, I went with the Drive Reach OTR. As I understand it, the Drive Reach has the best upload power/speed and has the same download specs as the 4G-OTR. The big antenna is also supposed to be the most effective even though it has the same rating as the magnetic mount antenna.

I cancelled my order for the Drive Reach (470154), and ordered the Drive Reach OTR Fleet (471254). The fleet one has the large antenna for when I'm really off the grid. I still want the small magnetic antenna for every day use, so I'm ordering it separately from Amazon (AllTechSource doesn't sell the small one separately).

Try using the chat feature. Just because it isn't on the site doesn't mean they don't carry it.

If they don't post up the link. I might be interested in the small magnetic mount too for when I'm not far away from society. I don't really want my truck covered in big antennas. (WeBoost + CB/Firestik)

Yeah I tried chatting with them; they're very responsive. Asked if they sell the small antenna separately. (It's cheaper to buy the Reach OTR, then buy small antenna separately; rather than buy regular Reach, then buy big antenna separately.) They didn't sell the small antenna separate, only the big one.

The small one was on Amazon for only 25 bucks though.

In general the bigger the antenna the higher the gain from it and the chance of better performance when needed the most.

    Just Physics not aesthetics.

So the idea of having both a small antenna and a large one makes a lot of sense in a practical sense to use the best one for the job as needed.

My thoughts exactly. I'll keep the small one on regularly, & put the big one on when I'm out in the bookdocks & the small one isn't quite cutting it.

No doubt. I was thinking of also getting another power source so that I could easily switch the unit between vehicles. No way my wife is putting the OTR antenna on her SUV, but she wouldn't even notice the little sharkfin antenna. I mean really, I ought to just get a second unit and permanently mount one in each vehicle....but that's a lot of money.

Some questions that I seem to be getting a lot.

Q: I see that there is a sale going on right now on their website. Is this discount in addition to, or instead of?
A: I believe the discount is on the lowest price listed (in addition to). The best way to determine is to add the unit that you want to your cart and apply the discount code. That should tell you final price (unless sales tax needs to be added).

    Q: Can I get a quote on ______ model?
A: I am not the vendor. I can send you the discount code and you can add it to your cart and apply the code to determine price.

Also, this discount is site wide. For those who live in remote areas, you might consider a whole home booster. Just a thought.

What are peoples' results with the booster?

Got the Weboost Drive Reach installed. Just sitting in the driveway, I plugged it in and didn't see any increase in bars (I have 2 to 3 bars in driveway). Green light on the Weboost, so no antenna feedback loop. For external antenna, using the smaller roof-mount magnet one. The inside antenna is mounted on the side of driver's seat near console. No increase in signal bars whether I have my phone on my dash-mount, or held right next to antenna, or any distance in between. ?? Are there areas, maybe, where the booster just won't help at all?

I'll be really testing it next week on a drive from VA to NH.

Anyone else have situations where you had no apparent boost from the booster?

I got mine installed on Saturday and ran some tests and had pretty good results. I got the OTR antenna though, so that is very likely to be a factor in the difference.

I have an android, so I didn't have to download a separate app to see signal strength. At my worst (w/o booster) I was getting a signal strength of "-114 dBm 26 asu". or about 2 bars, and at my best (w/ booster) I got a signal strength of "-76 dBm 64 asu," or 5 bars. I'll get screenshots uploaded as soon as I get them off my phone.

Same as you, that was sitting in my driveway. According to the WeBoost website, the number of bars is not a good way to measure signal strength. Also, I found the best signal boost with my phone a few inches from the internal antenna. WeBoost suggests having the internal antenna between 18 and 36 inches of the internal antenna. While I did get a good boost at that range, it was better within about 2 inches.

After I made a comment on another member's post about signal strength, I received a PM from someone giving me a more technical explanation of how to measure signal strength. I think my comment was something along the lines of "So you went from 2 bars to 5 bars for the laymans like myself." Regardless, it seems as though the number of bars is not a good measure of signal strength as it can vary by phone (i.e. iPhone vs Samsung vs LG, etc.). For those who want to dive into a little more, here's the article: How to Check Your Phone's Signal Strength | dBm & Top Apps

For those who don't want to read the article, I'll summarize. Signal strength is measured in decibels, much like that of sound. However, it isn't the same dB as sound, but rather dBm. Don't ask what the m stands for. If you cared that much you'd have read the article. but the closer to 0 the better.

Before turning on my WeBoost Drive Reach OTR Fleet model, I was pretty constant at -110 dBm. As you can see on my phone, I had approximately 2 bars (again, arbitrary and not a good measure). This dBm measurement was not constant. It fluctuated a bit. The worst that I saw was -114 dBm and the best was probably -97 dBm. Regardless, -110 dBm seemed to be the "return to normal" after brief changes in signal strength either direction, so that's what I'm going to use as my baseline for the un-boosted signal.

    1605629420072-png_a2f7105394b2288539a8302815ac35627a2f107e.jpg

After powering on the booster, it seemed to be pretty consistently -76 or -77 dBm.

    1605629361831-png_aeb3a90bbb308c0165fa6ebc8f0724b2308112d4.jpg

So that's an overall improvement of about 34 dBm. and a 38 dBm improvement if you go from worst to best.

I found that signal strength was best when the phone was within about 3" of the internal antenna. My WeBoost owners manual calls for mounting the internal antenna 18 to 16" away from the intended use area of the phone. I did find signal improvement in this range, but not as good as the 2-3" area.

I often find myself using the Bluetooth in my truck and keeping my phone in the cupholder area of the center console. I think I'm going to permanently mount the internal antenna in the area below the AC controls.

I mounted it with one extension and the spring.

    1605629452580-png_1b3587e7a70dca0682a3bced9e7476a09d64d938.jpg

It's pretty tall above the cab, so I'm going to look into folding mounts that don't break the bank.

AllTechSource.com is still giving us a discount through the end of the year, but it isn't quite as good as it was prior to December.

Thank you. Not a company that I would have made a purchase from if if wasn't for seeing the deal here. I'd buy from them again: responsive and shipped the item quickly.
