I’m really happy with my Neico set, and my dad has Tekton and they’re pretty much identical.

this is the set i have. You have no idea how nice it is to have 2 of every size for those bolt/nuts that you need both ends.

I've got a few of the Tekton, Husky, and Proto sockets. All are pretty solid choices but the Proto have a definite better quality to the tools.

Does anyone know if I can apply a grease coating or fluid flim coating over my por 15 coating on my rear axle cover? I want to keep as much moisture out as possible but I don't know if that would do more damage

 

It has been raining all week. Not much work done on truck.

Finally got around to replacing my 14 year old water heater. Seems that corrosion is a common theme around here... lol.

Upgraded from 40 gal to 50 gal. Sweated a few couplings (my first time). The rest are sharkbite. Also added a pressure expansion tank, never had one before. This is typically recommended to relieve any unnecessary pressure on the pipes when the hot water in the tank expands. Apparently, required by code these days.

Prob saved about $600 in installation costs and definitely sidestepped the usual goofy/shoddy work that most contractors do.

If I didn’t work through Halloween I was going to spin the Mercedes around, put a skeleton in it and have the headlights glow a dim red... but oh well. Work still has to be done

Congrats on making the decision to join the club.

My three pieces of advice from my experience is this.

1. Find a store that has display models that you can feel, and touch. Figure out what feels right in your hand.
2. Buy an impact wrench, not an impact driver. For truck work. Impact drivers are the ¼" hex units. Not the socket units, but you can get an adapter, but I've found those break when you use them like I do. Which is why I bought the wrench.
3. Buy a "kit" that includes batteries, and a charger.

Any tips for plasti-dip in a can?

Got a little house project to work on, and depending on how that goes possibly a truck project.

 

Apply by using several coats. Use thin coats.

I’ve used it mostly for blacking out chrome trim and badges.

Which 86 Model Radio do you recco? I have XM and need that capability. Will run microphone for phone shtuff.

You need to find a newer radio bezel from an 03-04. The radio doesn’t do XM because it’s meant for cellphones to use the XM. But I can see if they make the extension module

Most cheap tools at Harbor Freight are one-time use disposable tools.

That said, there are some gems in their collection. The high end floor jacks are one.

I think these are fantastic at $24. I have a 1/2 drive impact gun. Definitely the recommended size as others have said. The etched size markings on the sockets are immensely helpful. I never had a set with them until I got these.

 

I have actually been using harbor freight impact sockets for a while now. I would like to replace them with something nicer, but until they fail they will stay in the chest.

 

Thanks guys. Is there a benefit to buying the bare tool and then piecing it together? Seems the lowest the bare tool got down to last black friday was only $25 less than it is now, give or take.

 

Only if you already have the right battery and charger. If you don't yet, then get the combo kit.

I have 3 M18 batteries and 2 chargers so the next few M18 tools I buy will be tool only.

 

That makes sense. I just read the Milwaukee Impact is made in China and that is extremely disappointing. I'm not worried about the quality but I'm trying really hard to limit what I purchase from those assholes. I wish we could slowly pull back what we make there. The DeWalt Impact is made in the USA but it doesn't have as much power. I'll probably have to break my own rule since the Milwaukee have such outstanding reviews.

 

I have heard plenty of people prefer miliwaukee over Dewalt, but I have put a few Dewalt tools through absolute hell and they still work. It isn't a bad option.

My Dewalt corded reciprocating saw has seriously been submerged in water twice, rained on a few times, and used to cut everything you can imagine. 14 years old and still works fine.

Or go miliwaukee and pretend you bought it pre-covid.

 

Depends which rating/model you look at they're Milwaukee 750/Dewalt 700 max M1100/D1200 breakaway.

I don't think you can go wrong with either.
