I installed the flowmaster outlaw on my 2019 tundra. The sound is amazing!!!! But the highway drone was horrible. I tired to talk to Dirty Deeds industry who told me to sell it and get his set up. But I loved the duel exhaust too much. I ordered two helmholtz resonators from him and put them on. Drone is gone!!! The sound outside is a little calmer at idle but still extremely aggressive when you get on it! The fix to the drone finally!

Do you know what the resonator dimensions are ?
Might be pretty easy to just make them if needed.

26 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. Honestly super hard spot to find places to put them. And cause it’s two pipes coming out of the muffler you have to get two resonators.

    Yeah i was just curious.
I put a new exhaust system on mine too.
Love the sound but theres a (very minor) drone at 1600-1800 and im considering the resonators

Yeah I would throw some on there. Around there the driver side tube bends after the muffler. I put exhaust sealant to make sure it didn’t leak. Also the DD resonators are meant for the stock system and the flowmaster is three inches in diameter. So I had to bed the parts that hug the tube. Super easy tho

Do you have pictures of the underside of your truck with them installed? I love the sound of the Outlaw from Youtube clips but didn't want to deal with drone. Seems like a great option.

Okay, i dont know so i gotta ask. How do the resonators work? Are they just attached to the side of the exhaust pipe or do you cut an opening in the pipe so exhaust gasses travel through the resonators as well?

Cut a hole in the pipe then attach. The sound goes through the resonator and depending on the size of the resonator a specific sounds gets bounced back cancelling that sound in the exhaust. That sound getting canceled gets rid of drone if you get the correct dimension of the resonator. Look up “how helmholtz resonators work” on you tube. Cool stuff!

My neighbor has the factory TRD exhaust on his truck and was complaining about drone. I'll let him know about this solution. Thanks.

Has anybody installed the 10 inch system without the resonator then decided to add it on later only to regret it?

I am stuck at go/no go situation and looking for some advice...Thanks!

Installed mine without the resonator early this week. I’ve been running it 60+ miles a day and getting used to the sound.

I’m installing the resonator this Saturday.

    ... I’ll be back.

I'm not sure he's experiencing drone. Drone is a resonation you feel in your head. It's damn annoying. I have the TRD and while I can hear it in the cab, it doesn't drone at all.

I ran in for 3 weeks without the resonator. Once i installed, i never regretted. Sounds cleaner

I did the same on a 2 in single out Magnaflow.
But the resonator knocked the sound back to stock.
I ended up buying a @dirtydeeds system and I've lived happily ever after.

Did you install the resonator when you got the DD system?

I went without the resonator for a little while. Sounds great and throaty (but you hear various sounds of the exhaust inside the cab including some mild drone). I prefer same the setup with the resonator especially if you travel long distances on a regular basis.

To each their own but if someone complains about drone from the TRD system, then maybe they should leave the truck stock...

Leave the truck.... stock?! How dare you!!

I installed the DD 10” and slapped it on after work early this week. Sounds great.

But- I do get a drone right at 1500-ish RPM, and it’s enough to drown out the music my dad hates.

Surgery will occur sometime Saturday, and I’ll be back with pictures and details.

I've ridden in a Tundra with TRD and it has more drone than my BAM system.
Stock muffler had more drone than my BAM system, so that comment wasn't very helpful.
    To each their own indeed.
    Thanks..

UPDATE: I added the resonator today. I was not happy with it because it did change the sound, less throaty and not as loud. But breaking it in a little it is starting to sound deeper and smoother. I guess there is a break in period on the resonator as well. Absolutely no drone what so ever.

For those of you that want a clip, you have to hear the sound in person, I don’t care what type of high tech microphone you have it’s not the same. It does not do the sound justice.

    As promised:

The resonator install took about :30 start to finish. I removed the tailpipe entirely to drill the resonator hole. Getting the oddly bent length of metal out of and then back into its position was annoying and took the longest of any step.

I followed the basic instructions on the Dirty Deeds website installation video.

First I mocked up the resonator in place under the truck and marked off the location for the hole with chalk.

Then I pulled the tailpipe out completely, turning and aiming it as needed to get it out while watching the brake lines, etc...

Once out, my 2” Diablo hole saw ate a clean hole in about 3 seconds. 761D6618-BE13-47AE-B32B-3A56F19B6AD5.jpg

Finished the cut, and then de-burred:
    7418D26F-8DA0-4B04-A9EE-D0367ABAA78F.jpg

Maneuvered the tailpipe back into position, again careful not to snag or pound any lines, and then installed the resonator close to the spare and angled up to avoid pooling condensation using the 2 clamps Keith includes in his kit:
    DEAB4E29-B8C3-497D-8B29-D31AD6531D00.jpg

I would agree that the resonator changes the sound. The drone is ENTIRELY eliminated. The quality of the sound changes (to my ear) from a “hot rod” exhaust sound to more like a “super car” sound.

You can go either way. Ask Keith for a delete plate and you can have both. The swap only takes about 30 minutes and isn’t terribly dirty or hard.

    Delete plate:

I'm beginning to think people can't tell the difference between drone, and hearing the exhaust in the cab. The TRD exhaust does not drone.
