Catalytic converter skid plates & theft deterrent

That’s a big problem here in Chicago I don’t park my truck outside but cars are getting hit at the mall and at restaurants and the Tundra would be supper easy to steal the cats so I’m going to message this guy and see how much are they.

My Honda Accord cat was stollen last winter it had 301k miles on it in front of my house

Don't know if you have any out in chicago but I'll post the part numbers for the L bolt that are theft deterrent along with washers later.

 

I looked them up trying to find them in stainless steel so they don’t rust I seen Amazon has them 3/8-16 x 1 1/2 so a little longer than the 1 1/4 I seen on the video I can always cut the bolt down if it’s to long and I do have a set of tamper torx bit set too. I’m going to take a run this weekend to Homedepot and see if they have any in stainless steel

 

Once these are on there shouldn’t need to be a reason to remove for oil change or routine maintenance right?

 

Scored on a set of stainless at Grainger 5 for $7 but used the company discount. Let's see how it goes later today. I saw them on Amazon as well but delivery would arrive after the plate and want to install it this weekend.

 

I believe the oil change location is further up. I'll post pics later and possibly a video of it if it will help everyone on here. Plate should arrive today according to Fed ex. Keep you all posted

The dealership I got my 19 crewman from installs the orfab transmission plate at time of purchase to all their Tundras because of cat theft in the DFW area. Covers the cats pretty well.

A cheap Motorcycle jack really works for lifting heavy parts into place. I have one from my younger days when I rode a bike, and even though I no longer have that, I have the Jack. I have found it to be very useful in certain situations. I helped a friend to replace a cat bac exhaust system, and it was perfect for holding it in place while we put the hangers in place and bolted it all together.

 

Okay guys got my plate installed. Wasn't easy doing it on my own but a floor jack and wood worked great. Just like the video I had seen the front cats are protected but the rear passenger is more accessible than the driver side. I'll post better pics tomorrow during the day and install my stainless bolts. For now here's a couple pics. Took a video but let's face it I'm no YouTube star lol. I'll see if I post it later. Okay guys installed the new stainless bolts. Should've got bigger washers but they will do. Here's the part numbers and tool kit I got on Amazon. I didn't notice but the bolts weren't torq or star so I didn't have that key. Amazon buy. $33 bucksYou can see the head type here

Nice I got my plate delivered today I will install it sometime this week once I get all my hardware

 

Got my new SS hardware got plenty of bolts and washers keep in stock

 

I ordered and installed mine this week. With a jack and a hi-lift base (In lieu of a 2x4), I installed it within 10 minutes. Great product and even better customer service.

 

Finally had time for install

 

I have my Desert Eagle Offroad arrived and installed, today.

 

How much alteration to the RCI skids did you have to do? I have the Desert Eagle CAT protection, but I wanted to get an idea of just how much modification we're talking.

What is the plate made of aluminum or steel?

 

My Desert Eagle Offroad catalytic converter skid plate is steel.

 

I learned today they are 10 gauge steel, the finish is powder coat.
2nd generation are available and first generation may be available by December. No hard date is set.

 

There is a tundras.com YouTube channel set up, but it doesn’t look like anyone has used it yet. If you have a video you want to share on it get with @Bob and he’ll post it.
