Really liking how the cement DC tundras look and having a hard time finding a good deal around the south new or used.

There is a dealership near me giving me KBB trade in value for my Tacoma(22k) but the best they can do for their Tundra is about $34,500 OTD minus my trade in equity(8k), would that be a decent price?

2018 SR5 4X4 DC with the XP wheels/Terra Grapplers G2 and steps and has 55k miles.

I believe it's a bit too high given the mileage but they won't budge anymore lol

Not in a rush so willing to wait until market craziness dies down.

Lots of options and packages can affect the price by several thousand dollars. What packages/options does it have? If you are not sure plug the VIN in here https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

If you can wait for the whole covid impact on the vehicle market to subside you might get a better price, but it's hard to say without knowing what that truck has on it. Tundras hold their value insanely well, so you might wind up having to pay more that you think you should anyway. That was a big part of why I bought new. The minimal savings for a Tundra with less than 60-80k miles just weren't worth it to me.

I agree with everything here, I had actually gotten a great deal for a new 2020 but wanted to try a new color and decided not to take it.

The truck is the pictured one and it has nothing but the regular SR5 upgrade package and XP wheels/tires and steps..

I'm not as familiar with the 2018 packages, and especially no the regional ones like the TSS (not to be confused with the safety system) and XP, but I think the SR5 Upgrade gives you the floor shift/center console, and the larger fuel tank. Both are nice to have IMO.

One final thing I would be checking would be if it is a flex fuel engine or not. If it is, it would be a hard pass from me. If it's not FF I would consider it, but I'd push hard for them to sweeten the deal with something like the new 18" Pro wheels, a color matched grille and hood bulge, or spray in bed liner; in that order of preference. At a minimum I'd make them fill the tank and replace the tires.

If you're not in love with this exact truck I would definitely recommend shopping locations further away. One way plane tickets are cheap right now, and you might be able to get a much better deal by casting a wider net. Autotrader and similar sites are your friend and negotiating tool. You can pull up trucks across the country, email for their lowest prices, and use it as a cudgel to beat that price down. Dealerships need to learn that they have to compete nationwide, not just with the guy down the street.

Not sure if this link will work with the search results I pulled up, but it's worth a shot. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/awd-4wd/toyota/tundra/salt-lake-city-ut-84121?dma=&maxMileage=60000&engineCodes=8CLDR&fuelTypeGroup=GSL&engineDisplacement=5.0-5.9&searchRadius=0&trimCodeList=TUNDRA|SR5&location=&startYear=2015&marketExtension=include&isNewSearch=true&showAccelerateBanner=false&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&numRecords=25

Sadly, Tacoma’s, Tundra’s and Four Runners with 50k or less are not that much cheaper than buying new. They hold resale value very well.

As @AzureNightmare said, keep riding that taco and wait until Dec 31st or see what happens in the market.

There are several threads about the insane trade in values of Tundra’s and the used vehicle inventory overall around the country. It’s crazy.

Question, that OTD price, is that including taxes? I can't tell for sure, but to get the best info and compare prices fairly you should always list the price before taxes. The reason I say this is because the price you list seems high after browsing Autotrader, but that is assuming that you will pay taxes on top of it.

So the actual best OTD price they are giving me is $27K(which includes taxes and all fees) and that's due to the trade in.

I have about 8K equity on my truck if we go by KBB trade in value so it's their sale price minus 8K.

    34k - 8K + 1k(estimate taxes and dealerships fees) = 27k

I felt like it's a bit too high for the base SR5 DC 4x4 with just the predator addons so trying to bring them down another 1-2K.
    ------------

Thanks for the info @AzureNightmare, and @Zero One Actual why is Flex fuel bad if I don't plan to use it?

Appreciate the suggestions, I have found some good deals locally but really looking for a specific setup which is Double Cab 4x4 cement, crewmax has amazing space but I carry equipment in the rear and can use the larger bed.

I also wouldn't mind buying new but nothing to be seen near me lol, the flying out is a good idea though but kinda hard with my trade lol!

Unless you really don't have the time, selling a Tacoma private party is the way to go. Trading in is for suckers.

this is true unless the tax savings is big enough don't know about all states but in AZ you don't pay Taxes on trade in Value my Tacoma was payed off so if I would have purchased a 40k truck 33K was non taxed In my case I bought a used Tundra in cash and used the rest to pay off the wife's SUV and I didn't like my Tacoma but I do love my Tundra

Lots of dealerships will buy even if your not trading. Carvana and Vroom is an option, or even carmax.

If you go that route you need to research your state's sales tax rules. I am not sure all will allow the tax deduction unless you trade in at same time you are buying.

Yeah so I am mainly trading in because of the sales tax advantage, and as far as I know, in Georgia you have to trade in at the same time as purchasing to get it but idk where I could check that for sure.

Carvana gave me a really good trade in price for my Tacoma a while back but the Tundra I got from them had rust issues and it went back, now their offer is like 4k lower lol.

I had worked out a really good deal buying one the last few brand new 2020's and trading in but Carvana took 2 weeks to return my truck and truck was sold and deal off the table lmao

Just curious - why you consider the flex fuel engine to be a negative?

If you're looking at KBB, make sure you check other sources. Remember KBB is built for the dealers so dealer prices tend to be high. I like using Edmunds True Market Value as well. The toughest thing once you buy, don't keep pricing things out because you'll always find something else that looks like a better deal.

Its also a 4x4...I can't see it being much cheaper than the offered price. 4x4 always command a premium

Sales tax on the 8k trade in value is (assuming 8% sales tax) $640. I'm pretty certain you can get more than an additional $640 on your vehicle if you sell it private party, no?

Ethanol is harsher on the engine. On a used flex fuel I would have to assume it had been run on E85 because of its lower cost. That puts the truck to a 5k mile oil change schedule as a best case scenario, but there are plenty of people that don't read manuals. Hell, there's talk on the forum of owners getting flak from the dealerships for wanting a 5k oil change. I just wouldn't be willing to risk that the truck hadn't been properly maintained, because that's the biggest factor in longevity of a vehicle.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I was actually looking at it the other way, in that the flex fuel can endure ethanol fuel and so would sustain less damage over its life compared to a non-flex engine, because it's almost impossible to avoid the ethanol crap anymore.

Different ways of looking at it I guess, but think how boring the world would be if everyone liked the same thing!

    Cheers.

I can see where you're coming from. I think the only things actually different are some seals to be more ethanol resistant, but I could be wrong. Even with the changes for E85 you are forced into a 5k oil change. That's the equivalent of harsh conditions on a non flex fuel, so I think that illustrates how hard it is on the engine.
