A few minutes ago, The garage door ended up scraping the front bumper as it was parked to close to the door. Is there anything I can do to make it look better?. The gashes are deep. The chrome did not get affected. Just the black part. I would appreciate any help as it’s bugging me a lot. Thankfully the license plate took a lot of the hit.

I saw someone use a heat gun on interior scratches. No idea if it would work or not. Maybe a local body shop has an idea.

Since the bumper has texture to it, I would think anything you do to smooth / buff those scratches out is going to also take the texture out. Meaning, you'll always notice something happened there.

I'd try a heat gun first. I had to clean up a scratch like that on a Jeep Wrangler and it did a pretty good job.

I think light heat will take the white/light grey or of it without removing the texture. Not too much heat though because it'll get shiney.

Thanks for all the heat gun recommendations. I bought one and it definitely made it look a lot better. You can still see it but it turned the grayish/white parts in the gash to black so they blend it much better.

It’s a little dirty in the pic but it’s not as obvious as it used to be. To be honest, I tried polishing down the plastic a little with some polish to make it more even but after realizing that wasn’t going to achieve the desired results, I went to the store and bought a heat gun.

That’s a deep scrape. I wonder if Mother’s back to black would help.

Thank goodness for the chrome grill or would have scratched all the way up. :monocle:

Thanks for the tip. I went to the store and got some of back to black and put some. I think it looks a lot better. I might have to go over the whole bumper with the heat gun to make the color even as you can tell where I used it. Looks a lot better now though.

There's a way to replicate texture with dent removal black glue and plastic poppers. I have deep gouges in the back of my Mini Cooper seats that's I plan on trying the technique on because realistically no one can even fit back there so they'll never see em of they look like trash lol. I'll post here with the outcome for folks looking to replicate texture on plastic.

Essentially you create the texture with the glue on the popper and it releases from whatever piece you're replicating with 99% alcohol. Then you heat gun the area to turn it black and right before it completely settles and cools, you place your texture replicator onto the piece.

Here is the YouTube I'll be trying.

Wow that is cool, thanks for sharing! Definitely saving this for when the need to replicate texture arises!

Yeah figured the Mini's seats would be perfect to fool around with as I plan on putting buckets in eventually anyways. A lot of their YouTube channel has great info on various car related stuff. Would definitely recommend going down a rabbit hole on there lol
