    Hello fellas,

I have owned many Toyota’s over the years but other than the occasional car wash, I have never done anything else.

Thanks to this forum, I now know all about detailing and making your truck look nice. I bought a black 2018 Tundra 4 months ago and waxed it with Griots 3 in 1 about 2 months ago. I couldn’t believe the difference!!. The truck came back to life. I wish I knew about this detailing stuff before now!.

This is what I have been doing and I would appreciate any opinions whether I’m doing it right since I’m a newbie at this. I live in Chicago and the car is garaged most of the time.

I start by using Chemical guys waterless wash and the after that I use Meguiars quick detailing. After discovering this waterless wash stuff, I rarely ever wash it with water. Is that good enough?.

Is waxing with Griots 4 times a year a lot?. I don’t want to over do it. Also, can I just spray more Griots over what’s on there already. I’m looking forward to learning a lot from you guys. Here is my truck after it’s first wax ever!!.

I can’t speak on the cg or Meguiars products you are using. But using griot 3-1 every 3 months is good. It lasts longer but I find I do a topcoat every 2-3 months depending. Yes you can put 3-1 over you existing coat. Being that it’s garage kept this will keep the truck in great shape. I would plan a full decon every year to 1.5 years. But that’s just me.

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad I can just put more wax on top of it. Makes it easier. So if I use the waterless wash, should I put the quick detainer and then wax again or just go straight from waterless wash to wax?. I just googled Decon and that’s where you remove the wax, correct?. Do you have a good product for that?.

Decon removes iron deposits on the paint as well as wax. Kinda of a by product of the process. When I say decon it is a two step process of using IronX and then clay with some kind of lube. I prefer griots speed and synthetic clay bar. I always wipe down with CarPro eraser before I apply my base coat sealant after the decon process.

Besides a yearly decon always being a good idea, there’s no detriment to putting new wax over old wax. I do it all the time. There’s at least 17 layers of different crap in my truck at any given moment.
