Just got done installing a ESP long box in my 2020 Crewmax , Great instructional video by Earl , also he (Earl) is very accessible over the phone , if you have questions . Couldn't be more happy with the product , fit and finish is second to none .

Yes, I like mine too. I do wish the locking mechanism was stronger and configured differently, but it is a nice system.

In the pic where you cut the foam out . There are 2 grey support bars . Did you have to cut them out as well ? If so what support bars are they for or what purpose do they serve .im looking at doing the long box versus the 3 short lockable box

Those are the replacement mounts. You pull the existing center rails that are like the silver ones you see in the picture and these go in to give you flat surface.

This one is on my list. The cost has it lower down than I would like, but I REALLY like the lockable long box much better than the 3-bay one!

Those flat seat support bars are supplied with the ESP box. it's very easy to take the OEM ones off , and install the flat ones, which are actually stronger the OEM. The Flat support bars are supplied because ,you get the whole long box without any dividers in the whole compartment , and also the flat bars have a screw hole to secure the box from the inside .

    cheers

IMHO few important things are , 1) unhook the negative cable 2) listen and watch the video multiple times, and follow Earls instructions (great) 3) take your time cutting the foam , please do not use a powered tool or a blade, after we cut thru the foam , we realized the wire underneath , which was enclosed in hard plastic loom at the point where we crossed over with the blade . This whole install took me 2 hours tops , and without any stress .

I'm having a hard time to decide long box or short boxes ... wish the price for the long box was a lil bit cheaper . Looks good

It’s all down to what’s going in it. If all you need to keep in there is jumpers, tools, or anything that’s not the size of the chopper shown above, then the short boxes are for you.

I like the long box for options. I'm thinking long guns with foam inserts would fit great and be practically invisible to potential thieves - even if they get in the truck. But even if I put smaller items in there I can fashion my own dividers if needed.

I think the cost difference is due to material of construction (plastic vs. aluminum) and the lock on the long one.

There is a forum coupon that you can use all the time. I'm waiting another month or so then going to order it as well. Instructional video makes it seem like an easy install.

Have you thought of replacing the locking mechanism? Maybe with a stronger lock such as an RV outside storage box type of lock. Not sure of that would work or not. Just a thought.

No, I haven't. As you know the lock is a simple swing arm at a single location in the middle of each lid. I can pull up on the corner of the large lid and it will flex a bit, so I see that as a easy place to start bending it back with a pry bar. I'd like to see a dual arm system that secured the long lid at either corner. It would need to have some kind of connecting arm as I don't want two separate key locks to mess with.

It's strong enough to keep the smash and grab jerks away...

This product meet your expectations/quality-build? I just now found this ESP under seat storage box, from the pictures it looks tough and durable than any plastic buckets I’ve seen on this forum.

As far as cutting into the truck per template, you believe the truck will hold up. Are there screws that anchor the box down?

The long box system also comes with two new seat brackets because the stock ones are too big. That's a chunk of the added cost on it over the 3 bin ones that fit between the stock seat brackets.

Just take your time and a sharp box cutter , follow the templet provided , keep scoring multiple times , makes it easy . Not only does the screws, also the seat bolt hold the box down , it will not bulge .

So to answer your question if the truck will hold up, you aren't taking any structure out of the truck, just the useless foam that holds the carpet up in between the seat rails. I have a code for this group. It is TNDRASDTCM. I know the price seems pretty high, but we include the shipping in the cost. It averages between $50-$60 to ship one of these due to the weight and size. Plus the rails we had to engineer are expensive as well. That is what the difference in cost between the three compartment box and the long box. There is additional material and labor as well, but for the most part it is the rails. If anyone has any questions, I don't get a chance to get on here every day, so just feel free to call me at 951-858-3418. Remember though, I am in California, and you East coast folks are 3 hours ahead. I get calls all the time at 5 am. Fortunately, I have my phone on Do not disturb from 10pm to 8am, haha.

I was considering another ESP product and seen quite a few videos on the installation where they put in the sound insulation. That is what I was going to do with my product install.

It is still standing in the exact same place where I took the pic. I have to wait until Christmas to open it, and then it will be at least two weeks before I can install it! We're leaving right after Christmas to go to SLC. We'll be skiing Alta, Brighton, Solitude, etc.

Thanks for the response! I took a chance and bought the 150 mil stuff!
