I bought a $12 charger off Amazon and figured I'd give this a go. I used a dremel and a chisel to get the surface under the little tray on the arm rest perfectly flat, and it had to be very smooth in order to charge through my spigen s7 case. Once I had that done realized I also would have to remove the cover of the charger to get a reliable connection. Then I got it in place and used a piece of Styrofoam on top of the charger to use as a pressure fit between case and the inside console cover. Worked out great and I highly recommend this mod. Took about 1 hour in all. Didn't take many pics but you get the idea. I plugged it in to the port in the console.

I made sure to get a 3 coil charger so I wouldn't have to worrying about exact placement. There's a decent amount of leeway with the 3 coil

You just reminded me to ask...

In my GMC, I could charge off the Cig lighter even if the car wasn't running.

It appears I can't do that in my rig? Is any outlet hot when the truck is off, can I change it if I want?

    Muchos thankos!

I believe the answer is - Not in the stock configuration.. I think its relatively easy to run an extra hot wire to a 12 power receptacle, or even easier, plug in one of these - https://goo.gl/c9WJHV in one of the blanks, and run the cables straight to the fusebox.

Awesome idea and write up Pudge. I just ordered a wireless charger on Amazon to do this mod as soon as I get my Truck. I have wireless charging in my 19 Chev and really like it. I was going to miss that feature...thanks to you I won't !

I did the mod. Tried a fast charger using a Samsung "Puck" and it's signal was poor. Tried an older traditional Samsung and it worked fine with thin cases. Someone bought a charger that was designed to be mounted under tables and apparently that worked perfectly. Your mileage may vary.

Has anybody done this that has the Tufskinz center console pad thingy? I like the looks of mine but wouldn’t mind doing a wireless charger as well. Wondering if there would be too much/thick material in the way.

It may if you output a high watt cigar > USB-C to USB-C cable > newer Qi wireless charger, and you own a capable android.

I did this mod with a regular cigar but don’t use it much because my drives are short. I’m on iPhone and it’s a lot faster wired using my other HW cigar charger (18W is sufficient, it’s negligibly faster more than that) and a USB-C to lightning cable.
