Hi folks. Looking to finally take my truck on a dispersed camping trip. This would be my first time doing this type of camping and was wondering if any NorCal folks got any good “1st-Timer” spots to try out.

    Thanks!

Dispersed camping is camping w/o a campground. There are still regulations on fire and often on number of vehicles. On BLM land you can usually play with the pew pews too. @GodlessPro could, I'm sure, give a better description

How capable are you and your rig? Do you have sliders? And are you going alone?

I grew up in N.Calif and we just called it camping. lol

You're going to be really limited because of the fires but there are still millions of acres to explore.
One of my favorite places is on HWY108 up at the top of the pass, get a map and pic a spot. Plenty of trout fishing and still good weather right now. You're also high enough that there won't be many people.

Near Dardanelle? A lot of that area burned down a couple of years ago.

No, way above that. Dead mans creek runs along side the hwy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonora_Pass

The marines high altitude training center is on the Nevada side of the pass

Ahhh way up there. Is that the military base that’s on the left when you get down the steep part on the other side of the pass? Me and Warren just passed by a couple months ago and we’re wondering what that was.

Yes, thats it. Pretty bad ass in the summer, they fly training jets low and close a lot. Lots of great trails and lakes to visit

hey Joonbug! Don’t know if you remember me but I bought some ICON UCA’s from you a couple months ago. I have 2020 Pro with about an extra 1 inch lift from the CoachBuilder Kit along with some 35’s. No sliders yet , putting those on later this year with the help of dcsleeper408. I will be going alone and was looking for a “beginner” site lol. I try and do a solo backpacking trip every year for my Bday, but unfortunately my original plans had to be cancelled due to the Big Basin Fire, so this dispersed camping trip is more or less Plan B. Any recommendations you got would be super helpful. Looking to do a 2 nighter at the end of this month.

Oh wassup Cris! I didn’t know you had an Army Green. Yeah most of the spots I can think of requires sliders to get to.

Most of our trips we only run into Jeeps and Tacos. We never see any F150s or Rams. We did see a Silverado once. And half his bumper was ripped off. :D
