Anyone have any tips for buying a Tundra right about now? I need to upgrade my 04 Tacoma. Looking to buy a used Platinum in the Edmonton area. I'll drive just about anywhere north of Calgary. It doesn't seem like a great time right now, but I don't know how long it'll be until it gets better. Should I hold off until after Christmas?

No Tunny's in Vancouver? Some of our wonderful Canuck members should chime in!

Only a couple on Vancouver Island. Prices are high for the kilometres on them too

    You could try checking autotrader.ca.

No clue when things might be better. I believe inventory has been low and prices have been high since March or April.

No worries. You're beyond wonderful. How about kijiji? Autotrader is certainly a good place to search

You can try Kijiji but it's way harder to find something specific.

I've been checking auto trader and kijiji. I guess I was hoping for a miracle solution. Just gunna have to pit as many dealers as I can against one another

Is the used Platinum still for sale or are you hoping to find one in Edmonton?

I'm looking at 4 or 5 spread out between Calgary and Fort Mac. Edmonton would be ideal since that's where I spend most of my time, but I will happily drive 6 hours for the right truck.

I've never been to Ft Mac but I know it's a ways north of Edmonton. I remember it almost burned up a few years back. I was up your way almost 9 years ago. Drove up thru BC on my way up to Anchorage. Came back down thru Alberta. I was tired but cruised around in Edmonton for a bit and the same in Calgary. I recall seeing a few Yota dealerships. Inventory is low here in Denver.

Yes sir. And for 2020 we can even get in-cab heaters. For a stupid amount of money, but we can get it.

Inventory is low all over. I haven't seen any 21s at dealerships yet either, so used prices are staying high.

I'm looking for a 2017 or older Platinum or 1794 edition. They are crewmax only as I understand. Less than 200,000 kms. I don't care what colour it is. I'd prefer a newer one just for the larger gas tank but I can do the swap if necessary.

There are 7 or 8 on autotrader but all listed for more than I want to pay. All the various car value books list lower values for them too.

Target price range? (not asking in a sleazy “what will it take to get you to sign” way, but more what you’re looking to spend)

Used Yota trucks are going for a premium right now. Is your Taco a 2WD or 4? Will you trade it in? That's good to know too.

I found 13 pre-2017 Platinums within 500 km of Edmonton. Prices between $19k and $49k. Mileage between 58k and 322k kms.

Clean, rust free first gen Tacos are at a huge premium in western Canada. In 2018 I sold my 2003 Tacoma that was well built with the usual overland kit, rust free, well maintained and very clean for $18k. Yes, $18k CAD. Sold in 4 days. Today it would be worth more, especially in BC as the demand is highest there.

For comparison, a relative traded her 2003 Pontiac Montana mini van with almost the same km’s for a free tow away and a donation tax receipt from the kidney car foundation.

All that to say don’t trade it in. Sell that Taco privately.

I'd like to keep it under 35k. And ideally under 150k kms

Keeping my Tacoma for now. It's a 4wd. The stealerships won't give me half what I could sell it for privately.

I'm hoping the dealership ones are. I haven't started contacting them yet. Going to start that next week.

I'm keeping it for now. If I do get rid of it, it won't be going to a dealership.

Prices are high. In September traded in my black 2015 4.6 4x4 with 44k miles for 27k. I thought that was good price because it was basically the same price I paid for it 3 years ago. But then Dealer then listed it for 36k. It sold in less than 2 weeks.

This is the first time I have seen automobiles go up in value.

Think I should have either sold it my self or pushed more on my trade value.

I'm thinking you're going to need to increase your budget, look at trucks with more kilometers on them, look at lower trim levels or wait until the market goes back to "normal".
