Are we just debating here or are people interested in other options regardless of what people’s opinions are about leaving a gun in the vehicle? Lol

I have a hidden safe built in the floorboard under the rear passenger seat. It cost less that the center console safe and I don’t lose the easy access to my center console.

Nothing but business on this forum, ever. For proof, check this thread.

I like the Sig Sauer, and I've always been a fan of secret compartments.

What kind of safe is it? Is the safe secured to the vehicle somehow? Cool idea!

Now you've got me thinking: a SnapSafe could be hidden like that and maybe cabled [out of sight, under the carpet] to the bolt that holds the rear seats down.

That’s a sweet set-up. How durable is the face on that? I’d worry that I’d hit it when I toss my hitch in the truck or something. I’m surprised it cost less as you need to cut it into the truck.

And it’s all good. I said my piece. It was heard. I’m impressed that I’m seeing a lot of well thought out designs and not the standard “I just chuck it on my passenger seat because it’s my right” nonsense. You guys set a good example.

I’m also liking the floor safe because it’s completely hidden. Even if someone does steal your truck, it’s unlikely they’ll start lifting up the carpets.

Nice set up. But IMO too inaccessible if needed quickly. I use a lockerdown in the front console. Combination is set if I'm going in somewhere. But while driving it is unlocked. M4A2 AR with a full mag under the rear seat. Nothing fancy in case of theft not out much. And no stickers or anything like even a vanity plate.

I always liked the gun rack in the back window, but I guess an overhead rack would be more PC today.

Wow, that’s pretty neat. Where did you get it? Did you install it yourself or have a shop do it? How much did it all cost if you don’t mind me asking?

Oh I agree completely. Not easily accessible at all. This one is more for if I HAVE to leave my gun in my truck for some reason. They would need to flip up my seat, flip back my extended floor mat, then figure out how to get into it. Would take a lot more work then a console safe.

Otherwise it’s on my person or in console, while driving.

And with this safe I feel more comfortable leaving my purse in my truck or other valuables like if I go out fishing or something where I’m not gonna bring my purse on the boat, etc.

I still don’t lock my doors. I used to have a rack in my back window. I don’t now only because now it’s kind of tacky. Funny though as the back window rack would be a lot more useful now than it used to be because, with the back-up camera, I really don’t need the visibility I used to. Funny how that works. But now it’s like putting cow horns on the front of a Cadillac or putting racing stripes on a dodge neon.

I have a couple Sigs. This P938 and then a P226 Tac Ops. I like em too. :)

Here is the info on the safe. Smaller model. Opens with key or code. And yes it is secured/sealed.

    6EEBD340-95CB-4D25-8D0B-82449EC9A9CC.jpg

Thanks. it seems pretty durable. I have carpet and a thick Husky weather mat over it to protect it. I’m never really throwing shit in my back seat like that though. My amp is located just behind the safe too so I’m careful. (Also, I have a Diamondback HD cover on my truck so my hitch and stuff gets put in the bed. I have all sorts of lockable space on my truck). :)

The guy who did my tint/system did it. When I was buying my system I was complaining that even my thinnest gun case won’t fit under the back seat because of how those seats are raised. And since it’s dead space under there, he suggested we cut out the floorboard and add a safe. And I’m like ‘do it’! I’d have to ask him exactly how much it was. I paid a G for two 10” subs, an amp, auto tailgate lock, the safe and installation. My guess is the cost of the safe and $100 for install. Much less than the good console Safes.

you can see that it uses the bolts that anchor the console to the body. 10 gauge lid with pry resistant welded on 12 gauge body. Spring opening lid. USB connector built in. Anything safer would be to keep a German Shepard in the car with a black mamba snake in the box it’s self.

Has anyone seen a locker that is fit for the tundras with a 3rd seat on the front? I haven’t been able to find one. So I have to use the portable lock box

The only time I store guns in a vehicle is when me and a friend stop for beers and wings on the way home from the Range. We normally use my Buddy’s Tahoe with a bolted down gun vault in it. We did once with the Crewmax but ate outdoors where we could watch it. It did get me jealous of the Rambox for that purpose.

    Yes, yes we do. :D

I agree with all of the points you made, thought. I used to think "No need for firearms...I don't see that stuff in real life."

Then my wife and I happened to be across the street from the Ponderosa where the DC Snipers shot the victim in Ashland, VA years ago. Granted, a CCW would have done absolutely *squat*, but my overarching point (that others have made) is that a) you do NOT know when violence may start/hit; and if it does, b) it's like insurance - you buy it, hoping to God you'll never need it, but ready if you do.

I also agree with many others about just 'throwing a gun in the truck.' Missouri is a permitless concealed carry state; yet despite that, not only did I go out of my way to get one (simply because I like training), I'm signed up for multiple classes right now, as is my wife. You can NEVER be too knowledgeable when it comes to something that can take a life.

Always found it funny someone would spend $1000+ on a gun and then think $400 for a safe is expensive. Thats like buying a $25,000 early and a $100 helmet because you want to save money.
Anyway people complaining about leaving a gun in a car in a safe is funny. You do realize cops do this every single day.

I leave a weapon in my vehicle safe at all times. People call it irresponsible. Those same people, I can assure you, will do things I may consider irresponsible.
I installed a center safe. It’s secure as hell and would take someone quite a while to get in it. Short of my truck getting ripped off, I don’t see it happening.

Reviving an older thread here, but does anyone have the Tuffy underseat lockbox? It is 16g v 12g steel, BUT costs 1/2 to 2/3 less.

    LockERDown - $950 (12g body)
ESP - $650 (12g body, aluminum lid, cam lock)
    Tuffy - $388 (16g body, tumbler lock)
