Intermittent Starting Issue

I have a very weird starting issue that I was wanting some help with. This all started a few months ago.

One afternoon I went to start my truck and it took a bit longer to crank over. So I began investigating. Never has the truck not cranked over, it start every time. Some times it takes 3 seconds of cranking with the starter clicking and sometimes it takes 5 seconds, some days it starts up just fine with no issue and 5 minutes later it takes a while to crank over. There is no pattern, it doesn’t matter if is hot or cold, or if I leave the truck sit for 5 minutes or 5 days. For example every time I get gas, after leaving the truck sit for 5 minutes, it struggles to turn over.

I’ve tried quite a few things:
I had the battery, starter, and alternator tested, they all came back fine, however I’m going to go ahead and replace the battery as it is 5 years old.
I checked for parasitic draw but found none.
Cleaned the battery terminals and the air filter.

No check engine light is on.

The truck shows no other issues, besides that of the drivers side mirror I’m currently fixing, but it is throwing a lot of codes. Here they are. The P0335 & P0230 just showed up the other day.

 

I would think fuel pump could be a culprit. But also the crankshaft code is interesting, if it’s not sensing the crank when it’s supposed to it won’t start and if it’s a intermittent problem with the sensor that would explain the different crank times.

 

After doing some more research on the crankshaft position sensor code I’m going to try and replace that, thanks!

 

DAMN!!... I might be too late to this, but it might not be the crankshaft sensor...... it might be the starter sticking... I got that same code P0335, and I replaced the sensor, and it still wouldn't start... You may also need to check your fuel pump is still operating properly... I also had no CEL nor fuel pump code.....

 

I just replaced the battery yesterday with an

$385 Odyssey 34R-PC1500T Automotive/Light Truck and Van Battery

Odyssey 34R-PC1500T. Went back and tested the old battery’s CCA and it registering at around 450, which the battery was supposed to put out 750. New battery has 850 CCA and it starts up perfectly every time now. If it lasts and doesn’t give me issues for a week I’ll send back the crankshaft position sensor I ordered from Amazon, as I haven’t installed it yet.

 

Success! The P0230 fuel pump code and P0355 crankshaft position sensor code are no longer registering. I think I’ve fixed the issue, thanks for the help.

 

I just had the p0335 show up with same symptoms as you. Kids left door open and it killed my battery. Tried to start it a few times and got the code. Cleared it. Jumped battery. Hasn’t come back on yet. But I’m pretty sure it’s just the battery and not the sensor.
