Hey guys ... just FYSA ..on all 2020 with factory push starts the engine will always shut off when opening the door ... this had been the same issue way back when even when (DEI) Viper Alarm starts doing the them. There is actually a key in the truck for it to start but as soon as you open the door it will allow to see 2 keys at the same time... thats why its shuts off... Now question, i just downloaded the app and it doesn't show the remote capability im pretty sure its because i’ve added it to my 2019 not factory... have any of you encounter this before ..? Thanks

Couldn't agree more... just got a new Tundra and the shopping/negotiating process was a joke with a few salesman that didn't know this truck from their rear end! I literally had a guy (after asking him why they added a 1K market price adjustment on the TRD Pro) try to tell me that he was pretty sure they would take a loss whenever they sell TRD Pro's! I bit my tongue and just said to myself, wow this guy is full of it!

Where is the pride and integrity with some of these guys?

I have the Toyota App and the remote start works from it fine (other than the annoying shut off that happens when you unlock the door). And, my fob will also remote start it with the press-press-hold action. Like it’s been said, it’s ridiculous the truck shuts off once you unlock or open the door.

I’ve had other vehicles that had remote start but that did not shut off upon unlocking so it makes no sense to me why Toyota has that embedded in the program. Weird...

I also wonder why there’s no mention of the feature in my owners manual or am I missing it somewhere?

This is totally unbelievable. Mine used to work fine until the Toyota Connected Services subscription expired in December. Now, it doesn't work. Definitely, they must be related.:mad::mad::mad:. Already tried a whole bunch of times and still not working.
Very disappointed with the dealership for not explaining this. Will take the truck tomorrow to service and see what they say. Hopefully, I'm wrong, and indeed is a problem with the keyfob and not related to the subscription...

This is completely unacceptable! When I bought my 2015 remote start was an option. I believe it was a $500 option. Expensive but factory quality for the life of the vehicle. Now they want $80 a year. If you trade every 5 years it's a $100 savings. If you keep your truck like many do. Many buy toyotas for the long term reliability. Then the payments never end!!!!!! I feel scammed!!!!!!!! I want remote start from the key fob. That's all. I don't care about the cell phone features. If they want to charge for the cell phone app. That's fine. But for those of us who only want remote start. They need to bring back that option.

My phone is to old to accept the remote connect app. So I don't know. But from what I've read it doesn't work very well. For me all I want is remote start! I don't need it to tell me if my doors are locked. I don't need it to tell me if my windows are open. Heck, they only window I've ever forgotten is the sunroof and I don't think it even works on that one!!!!!!

    Exactly..!!!

I don't really care about the APP functionality but I do want my remote-start from the keyfob option. I'll keep you all posted with whatever the dealership says about this but want to give them the chance to explain and try to resolve it. Depending on the result, I may even consider escalating this to Toyota itself, other agencies' consumer bureaus.

Also, I found two other options that claim to be totally plug-and-play (let me know if I can post links here) that seem to be fully compatible with my 2020 SR5, push-to-start Tundra.

    Will keep you all posted...!!!

Incase you haven't gotten an answer, it's not the fob. Mine stopped working also. Seems we only get 1 year free subscription to Remote Connect service. The App doesn't work at all now, that's how I saw it. When you log on the app it tells you "Subscriptions has Expired" and to renew Subscriptions. When you click that you get to the services page and Add Services. I've got Safety Connect, Remote Connect, Distention Assist. Each service is $80 a year.
I don't know what the other two are but Remote Connect would be the only one I want and I don't know if it's worth $80 a year.
    Yeah, this sucks.

So far I have really enjoyed the app. It’s kinda slow but I like being able to see if my doors are locked or not and be able to lock/unlock/start from further away. I’m a traveling sales guy and I’m often too far away to remote start my truck from my room on a cold day. This allows that. Not sure yet if I will pay past the first year but possibly since it’s capability. I have the remote start with 3 locks thing but I have to be pretty close to the truck for that.

I do HATE that the truck turns off upon unlocking the vehicle. That is ridiculously dumb. No vehicle I have had has ever done that.

I purchased my 2020 on 12/19/20. For those you claiming you never setup an account via the Toyota connect app - your trucks VIN is likely tied to a trial subscription. Long story short my toyota connect subscription expired within the last 3 weeks. I did not renew it. As of the exact expiration date my key fobs remote start stopped working. Maybe I am missing something - but I can only conclude Toyota charges you for remote start capabilities.

That would be correct. Remote start even with the fob will not work with an expired Remote Connect service.

Alright, folks.... here it goes... (Sorry for the long explanation but wanted to share everything I went through and what I was told, which hopefully makes sense)

After talking to the service manager directly (because no service advisor seems to know what I was talking about), she explained to me that, there is not a quick fix for this or re-pair process (or similar). Even though they cannot "directly" fix the problem, they can get the resolution process started. The manager told me that this is the 3rd case so far this year (at this dealer) and they are referring all of them to their accounting department so that they can work it directly with Toyota Services. It looks (according to them) like the sound system (Audio+ or Premium Audio) will define which service length (3 to 10 years) is your vehicle entitled to get (just the remote start functionality) service without additional cost. This is not applicable to vehicles without either one of the above.

The keyfob remote-start functionality is directly linked to the same module the connected-services are. When the connected-service plan expires, (it looks like) a disconnect signal is automatically sent to disable all remote capabilities affecting the "remote-start" option through the keyfob (but not affecting SOS, vehicle tracking, and others)

If your vehicle is entitled to the service, the dealer should contact Toyota Connected-Services (apparently currently managed by Lexus) and have them do the update on their side to allow for the remote-start to work as before (through the keyfob and not through the mobile APP).

Of course, they were not able to correct the situation right there and the manager is required to work these tickets in collaboration with their accounting department, which will then trigger the process directly with Toyota Services.

I'm not an expert in mobile applications, accounting, or remote-start technologies but will give them a few days to work on this case and will keep you all posted.

Thanks for the information! I believe my 20 pro has the premium system. If my fib stops working I'll take this information with me and talk to the dealership. Good luck with yours. Keep us posted.

Yoyo......I am going through the exact same ordeal. Bought my truck back in November of 2019. Fast forward to December 2020 and my keyfob remote start won't work anymore. Went to the dealership (who has been great throughout this mess but now have 4 customers with the same problem). They started a ticket with techline and they seem to be giving the dealership the run around. I sent corporate a letter back on Dec 21st. No response. Went back to the dealer on the 24th. They gave me the print out stating that vehicles with Premium Audio should have remote start for 10 years, after that it requires a subscription and that they were waiting to hear from Toyota on how to proceed. I called corporate on the 28th of December and was told the case would have to go to "Telematics", i.e. Lexus and would hear back from them within 24 hours. Still haven't heard a word. Sent a rather strongly worded email yesterday about the lack of communication.

All I can say is WOW... Big disappointment.:facepalm:

I don't know if I'm going to be willing to wait a month or two for this. Having all the information you guys provided and knowing the real cause of the issue, I would even consider going straight to the state attorney's office or consumer protection bureau and get either of them involved.

But thanks very much for letting me know about your situation and how are they handling it. I'll keep everyone informed.

Was remote start listed as an option on the sticker? I don’t remember. Not sure that matters but if it isn’t I could see it being an issue for us.
I just bought my 21 TRD PRO so my subscription isn’t up until 12/22/21 but want to have it fixed so I don’t wait Until a cold day in December and don’t have it. Although, so far I like the app and would consider paying $8/month for it.

right... exactly what happened to me (at least). Tried to use it a few weeks ago (cold day) and did not work.

From what I found, no "window sticker" or dealer advertisement included this specific service, however, at least my window sticker refers to "Connected Services", for which services are described in the attached brochure. The "key fob remote start" capability is then described on the first page of the brochure. Note that it was published in 2019 and applies to all vehicles from 2018 to 2020 (https://www.toyota.com/content/connectedservices/marketing/PDF/Remote_Connect_CFA.pdf )(the same one published on a previous post by
    Gunship Guy)

Also, if you don't mind paying for the "Remote Connect" service, (which provides capability through the APP) you will certainly not have a problem.

    Hope it helps...!!!

So if I'm reading this correctly....starting the vehicle via the key fob should not require a Toyota Connect subscription?

For the record, it's got the 10-year trial, and with a Tundra TT potentially coming out in 2022, I'm not sure I'll have it 10 years (LOL). But still, it'd be nice to know.

Also...not sure if this means anything, but I long ago unsubscribed from most of the connected services (e.g., tracking where I go, and all that). Key fob still works and has always worked.

My service advisor contacted me this morning and said that the mechanic had gotten an email from the Lexus Experience Team regarding the next step to getting my remote start working again. She sent me the email and it states, "If SOS is green and key fob does not work to remote start the car, it tells us the issue is at the vehicle level. I would immediately suspect DCM Handshake and Initialization needs to be completed. If you ever lapse on subscription and the DCM goes to sleep, it comes "un synced" from the other computers in the car and causes this condition"

Well, took another trip to the dealership this morning. Mechanic did everything that was requested and still no remote start. I honestly feel bad for him because he can't fix the problem and seems to be getting conflicting information. He's doing everything that Toyota asks and the problem is still there. He did tell me that "Toyota is well aware of the problem and is working on a solution".

On a side note.......it's been 10 days (7 business days) since I was told (by corporate) that someone would be calling me back (within 24 hours). It's been 17 days since my first email. Still haven't heard a word.

I deregistered from the App once and lost my remote start via fob. When I reinstated the app the remote start worked again. they got something tied together that they may not have planned or whatever...
