Called a dozen places and everyone says there are no EPA certified conversion kits for the tundra.

Why are they stating anything about propane being contrary to EPA standards in the first place? It's well known that lpg burns considerably cleaner than gasoline. I would not be surprised to find that propane powered vehicles not only meet but surpass the standards for automobile emissions as set by the EPA for any given area including California.

Unless, of course, Texas doesn't allow any motor vehicle to run on propane... which begs the question, why any shop would offer to install conversion kits into any car or truck.

That's CNG... I wonder if they measure/meter LPG in the same manner in your area. Also how much is gasoline?

And for those that don't know... GGE = "Gasoline Gallon Equivalent"

According to EPAs website any mod that effects emissions must use only a system certified by epa to not increase emissions and be done by epa certified installer.

I got nothing more to offer on this point... maybe some one reading this could shine some light on this evident problem.

So the difference is .37... hhhmmm hard to justify install costs by citing "save money at the pump" the ROI on this would be years. But I would still do it if I could... because propane burns far cleaner than gasoline meaning far less pollution pouring out of your exhaust pipe(s).

That's why the OP has done it because Canadian gas prices are outrageous

That and apparently Canadian regs are different. After my calling/emailing blitz to the various US companies, I've received return correspondence from multiple sources confirming that there is no US EPA approved dual fuel system for the tundra.

This particular problem has been bugging me for a while... try these guys....It isn't about the vehicle it's about the conversion.

I fail to understand why it is 'vehicle specific' this make absolutely no sense at all. All gas powered internal combustion engines work in the same manner.

These are all EPA and TXDOT certified conversion installers

Propane Jack's - 210 680 5096 (as far as I know this is not an install company but they would certainly know of some)

My guess is toyota hasn't paid its fees (bribe) to the EPA for this specific model vehicle.
Every Toyota forklift I've ever seen runs propane.

That isn't factual... the EPA does approve dual fuel systems and has for many years. All anyone needs to do is visit their website search dual fuel... furthermore all the installers I posted are EPA and TXDOT certified.

Canadian regulations regarding alternative fuels makes it so much easier to get certified dual fuel systems installed in... well... any gas or diesel powered on or off road vehicle, regardless of year make or model.

I have propane on my f-150 fleet truck I drive at work. Can’t tell much of a difference in performance and I don’t pay to refill so don’t notice there either. The way mine is set up is it uses gas until it’s gone then auto switches to propane. Some of our old ones had a switch to manually switch from gas or propane.

How much of a pain in the ass is it to refill though? We have our propane pumps on site at work

Current US owners will find economics do not presently justify this conversion.

This November (2019) Texas, local prices are gasoline $2.19/gallon and propane $2.15/gallon. Then you have the lower BTU content of propane that makes the conversion a losing proposition. But, as with diesel, the economics will constantly change as prices move. That uncertainty alone would keep me from making an expensive conversion ($5600?!).

Propane conversions on trucks used to be common in Texas back in the sixties and seventies before the EPA got its hooks into us. These days, the economics don't justify using propane, and there is zero demand to justify expensive hoop-jumping EPA certification. Texans tend to be pragmatists where it comes to their wallet. :D
